Hello,
Thanks for the swift response, just to let you know that I'm okay with
the condition of the item, I'm ready to sealed the deal with you ,I
will be paying you $1400 (i asked 1200 not 1400) for the Item and I will be responsible for
all the shipping expenses,(ok that's fine.. but wait...) I want to buy it for my dad in Indiana,my
method of payment is through PayPal (questionable at this point, but not a true RED FLAG yet) cos its very secure, fast and
reliable, kindly get back to me with your PayPal account email or send
me an invoice through PayPal if you are a registered user of PayPal,if
you are not PayPal user i will advice you that PayPal is the best way
to transfer and receive money online, you can get an account with them
at www.paypal.com but you don't have to do this if you already have an
account, Just get back to me with your PayPal account email or invoice
from PayPal so i can proceed with the
payment as soon as possible . I'll be responsible for the pick-up
and the pick up money will be included in your payment to avoid delay
and to enable shipping agent to schedule an appropriate and convenient
time for the pick-up at your location (Wait wait.. did you catch that? the thing i said wasn't a true red flag yet JUST BECAME a true red flag.. Did you see what he said? "I'll pay you MORE so YOU can pay the shipping yourself... why?... hmm.... why? WHY wouldn't he pay the shipper HIMSELF? why does he want ME to do it??? )
I would have really love to come for the viewing but due to my work
frame that might not be possible, I'm a Marine Officer, I'm on the
ship now,but might want to have a good look,if you have the pics. (so, justifying his absence with the fact that he is "on some boat somewhere in the middle of the ocean" and not.. well .. in some other state... some other country. something like that.. too convenient right?)
Please do get back to me with your paypal email account or send me an
invoice so i can make out payment.
Regards...
(no name at the end.. though it is in his email address.. doesn't want to have to remember who he says he is at any given time.)
OK........ synopsis...
WHY would he pay me MORE than the bike is worth, and have me pay the shipping house? any IDIOT knows that you can go online, schedule shipping, pickup and delivery to and from anywhere in the ****ing world and pay with a credit card...... unless there's a motive...
so... here's what i dug up through a little bit of common sense and research.
The guy gives me 1400 for the bike, and maybe 700 to ship the bike. he calls and sets up the shipping, almost definitely in a fake name. they show up at my house, grab the bike... i pay the guys 700 to take it and deliver it..
it goes to Indiana where he has some friends pick it up at the dock, load it into a truck, and drive off with it...
He calls up paypal and says " WHOOWW WHOOWW I NEVER authorized this transaction!!!!!!!!!!
"hmm.. we'll look into it... wow.. yeah.. it says here that the item was shipped to indiana"
YEAH BUT.. I LIVE IN KANSAS! WHY WOULD I NEED SOMETHING SHIPPED TO INDIANA!"
good point.. let's look a little deeper.... the person Mitch Berry was the one that PAID for the shipping to indiana.... He's the one that signed the bill of lading and the one who collected the money.....
and before long, it would be deduced that i, or whomever bought the bike stole the credit card number, and had an item shipped to indiana...
undoubtedly, BOB SMITH from indiana picked it up... they cant contact bob smith, so they turn around and charge ME $2000 and potentially investigate me for FRAUD.......
Why am i posting this???????
because quite honestly, I DONT SEE ENOUGH of these kinds of posts online. you always hear about "online scams" but.. they are getting BETTER AND BETTER, and i hope that EVERYONE HERE reads this and is made aware of the kind of **** that's out there. if you sell something on craigslist, or even EBAY, this same **** can happen.
i read accounts of 3 or 4 people that this exact thing happened to, and they ended up going to court fighting for their innocence over an item that was stolen from THEM.
and it's about 99% guaranteed that this email stems from Nigeria.. It's 100% proven that the nigerians use the money they steal from the US to fund their civil war and genocide... they use it to help smuggle blood diamonds, buy guns, RPG's, ammo, etc... i have more i could say about that, but i think it would make people think poorly of me, so i'll keep my mouth shut...
but seriously.... look out for **** like this..... if it is in the least bit questionable, don't do it.... "CASH ONLY.......... come pick it up yourself.. load it in the back of a truck and hand me cash....!"
basically, i emailed him back and said to tell me who he banks with, and that i would open an account there, and he could have the money transfered, and that i wouldn't pay a shipping company directly. he would have to do it, and that i would have to check out the shipping company to make sure they were legit, licensed, bonded, and insured before i agreed to ship.
i -WONT- sell it to this guy no matter what... i'll conveniently "sell" the bike. but.. i would like to see how far he goes to try to scam me.
he'll either write me back saying that i'm trying to scam him, or he won't respond back at all...
so, because of that, i can smell a scam from a mile away.
alright.. check this out...
