Good points in your post. I don't know how much you would pay for washable padding and I modified the buckle on my HJC i10 but I would pay extra for the removeable, washable padding. As for comfort, I don't think mine could be more so but I think getting the right sizing has a lot to do with that.
Funny, I had an HJC and modified the buckle to a seatbelt sorta buckle. That buckle was one I bought in 1982 for my Bieffe Full Helmet. Wonder what happened to that company. Was a reasonably priced Italian brand. Very nice at the time. I always hated the D Rings. The AGV is the first helmet that douesn't have d-rings. Has a ratcheting type buckle. Even my Arai had D-Rings, but velcro and snaps to hold the loose ends. The Arai still is using the seat belt buckle I have. That buckle is great unless you have gloves on...But still easier than a D-ring with gloves on.

I keep my Helmets longer than the 5 year recommended. Since I have a fat head that sweats a lot, washable pads increased the life expectancy. Early helmets with permanent pads had to repolaced because no one with any sense of smell would wear them after they became properly saturated. Washed Pads are like getting a new helmet...

I hate D ring fasteners on helmets and the first thing I do when I get a new helmet is convert it to a quick connect type fastener. The type I use connects to the D ring fastener without cutting anything and can be fastened and released with gloves on.

The D rings are still on my Arai. The quick Connect is still on too. The AGV won't need it, so I'll have a back up helmet for awhile. I can count the times I've had a passenger on my....wait, nope. Haven't had a passenger in decades. The wife won't ride, and disapproves of passengers, especially ones with cushions. So I won;t really need the old helmet.

No D-Ring, no helmet lock on the 18+. That helmet lock feature was a godsend last year when I wanted to hike up Seneca Rocks in W.V. No room in the top case what with my big clunky boots and riding gear. I had to figure out how to use it on the fly.

I ended up getting the HJC i90. I found it on Amazon for $118. I was reluctant to buy a helmet online because I wanted to try it on before buying so I went to a local Motorcycle gear shop. I'm glad I did because I was going to get a large, but when I tried it on, it was pretty tight. The XL was a better fit. However, the price was $249. I told them the exact same helmet was $118 on Amazon and asked why they were so much higher. The sales guy said " we have overhead" and pointed out that I would have to pay for shipping and wait. I have Amazon Prime, so shipping is free and my bike is still winterized so I don't mind waiting. I really like to support local small businesses, but $131 is too much more to pay for that.

I ordered from Amazon too and also have prime. I ordered one according to their sizing and it was too small. I simply sent it back and got a full refund and ordered the next size up. Perfect fit.

I did find out what the "snow" designation meant though. Turns out it is the exact same helmet as the motorcycle option except there is a fabric cowl that covers the rider's nose and mouth to prevent the helmet from fogging up. The cowl is removable, so it's not an issue. I may look into getting the bluetooth add on, but maybe not. In past, I've told my wife I can't answer the phone while riding and I welcome the absence of the phone ringing while I'm on my rides. :sneaky:

Good Choice. HJC makes a quality helmet at a reasonable price.

The day after my high side, I got checked out at urgent care and was prescribed some muscle relaxers because everything kinda kicked up. I was talking with someone at the pharmacy about what happened and he shared that he and his wife had been in a bad bike crash wearing helmets with those aftermarket plastic fasteners that bypass the D-rings. He said they both failed. I had one of those on the class modular I was using at the time so I got rid of it.

I think it depends on the fastener like anything else. There are cheap ones and good ones. I bought one with testing showing that it is pretty much foolproof. When I got it I tested it as well. The only way it would come loose is if something hit it at just the right angle with tremendous force. I wouldn't worry if that happened because I'd be dead anyway.

So I agree that those fasteners can be a problem. Don't get the cheap ones.

My aftermarket fastener is made of metal. Very durable, and I have been using it for decades. Steadfastly is absolutely correct, the quality of the fastener is important. Some Cheap helmets have lousy d-rings, bendable, unwelded joints.

My HJC i90 modular helmet arrived today. I opened it up and checked it out. Although I haven't had a chance to ride with it yet, I like it so far. The sunscreen deploys with a slide lever on the side of the helmet which looks kind of cool.
