1986 Virago XV700
Okay, so my bike runs rich at idle (it's a single carb). I have the idle mixture screw turned in all the way and both front and rear plugs get pretty black if I let it idle a bit (as a side note, it doesn't really seem that my idle mixture screw does much at all).
And when I'm moving and the throttle is only cracked slightly (maybe 1/8 to 1/4 throttle tops) runs unevenly. My neighbor says he can just smell the richness off my bike as I'm going by (at about 6 mph). His theory was the front cylinder is being flooded at idle which is what gives it that uneven firing sound. It sounds like only one cylinder is firing (and maybe a bit of the other) when I just barely have the throttle cracked.
Recap:
- This is a single carb (Hitachi HSC40)
- Rich at idle (both cylinders)
- One cylinder seems to be "flooded" below 1/4 throttle (the front cylinder specifically)
- Idle mixture screw turned in all the way (doesn't seem to have too much effect one way or the other)
Where do I start on trying to fix this?
