Anyone here can tell me about them? I am with State Farm right now but Progressive looks to be cheaper for the same amount of Ins. Thanks

One google search on Esurance will show that they are HORRIBLE. I would NEVER trust a company with as many negatives as they have. When I started getting motorcycle quotes, they only wanted $90/year for the same 100k/300k liability coverage that Progressive wanted $360/year for. If its too good to be true, it probably is.

Progressive totalled a friend of mine's car, and when they were appraising it, went through craiglist to find the value. The adds they used were for "salvage title" cars, or "ignition damaged and window broken cuz someont tried to steal it, and I lost the key so you gotta use a screwdriver, meet me in a empty lot at 10 pm, cash only. Screwdriver included." kind of ads. It took him almost 2 weeks to settle the thing out and the adjuster was a real dick, and after all that I think he still got a little screwed on the deal.
I work for an insurance brokerage (I'm the receptionist, not a broker) and the brokers here say they wouldn't put someone with Progressive unless they HAD to (Dui's etc. Progressive has way lower standards- they will take just about anyone) because their claims service stinks.
Personally, since I've been working here, I've seen that going through a broker is the way to go. It doesn't cost you anything extra (they get commission from the carriers), they work for you and they find you the best coverage. In the event of a claim (accident) they negotiate the settlement on your behalf, and they know if they don't make you happy you will move your business to another broker. Don't let the "broker fee" ads fool you, most personal accounts (not businesses) do not get charged a broker fee.
Any carrier (state farm, geico, progressive, farmers, firemans fund, etc.) will do everything they can to pay you the least amount they can. After all, they are still a business. Brokers know the insurance laws and get you more $$. They also will discuss your needs for coverage and make reccomendations for your particular situation.

Yes. basically. Sometimes, you can save on the front end going directly to the carrier, but when it comes to a claim you can lose what you thought you were saving and then some. Like my friend who went Progressive for his car insurance, probably saved himself $200 year by going through Progressive, but they ultimately still undercut his car value by about $1500, plus he had the hassle of having to talk to 3 different people over a course of 2 weeks (till he could get the adjuster's manager's manager) to revisit his claim, so in the end he lost a lot.

So if you never, ever, ever, crash, and you make it a practice of learning the insurance laws every year, then go with e-surance and pay almost nothing for coverage. But if you are like me, and barely even read your policy, and probably will lay down your bike at least once, you get more bang for your buck through a good broker. :)

I love Progressive....when I bought Faith in February I checked rates with State Farm since I had my cage insurance there....been a State Farm customer for over 30 years...accident free....I should get a great price right??? NOT! Progressive was outstanding & made it so easy....this summer I told State Farm to take a hike & put the cage on Progressive too....saving us about $500 per year. State Farm is a joke...
Just sayin'....

I have been a progressive customer for years. I had a run of several claims; my fault; swung the front of my pk into a dumpster and then backed into one of daughter's friend's vehicles. Nothing major, everything fixed without any drama. Yeah, a minor rate increase - but I earned that. Then came a kinda bad one. Car pulled off a stop sign and hit me broadside and that driver had no insurance. They hooked me up with a rental car and had my car repaired without any drama. I haven't had any complaints. My rates keep coming down.

I have progressive for my car insurance, they were going to charge me double what I pay with Diaryland insurance company, and I was adding a 3rd vehicle to my policy. I get great rates for their car insurance but cycle insurance go elsewhere. Seriously though, liability for a 24 year old kid on a R1 is 139.00 a year. Full coverage with a 200 deductible, 1500 a year. You do the math

I pay about $192 yr for full coverage. That's about the only advantage to being an old fart. :D

I have USAA for my cars. Have been a member since 1984. When I got my bike, they selected Progressive to insure the bike (USAA doesn't do bikes). Although I don't know much about Progressive, I do trust USAA and believe that they applied some kind of standards prior to selecting Progressive to service USAA members' motorcycle needs...

I had GEICO for a while, in the early '90s. The rates were good, starting out but every month, I'd get a letter stating that "...due to a recent review of your driving history, we have found it necessary to increase your premiums." After a few months of that, I switched to Nationwide. The rates were decent to begin with but with good driver and multi-vehicle discounts, they dropped considerably over time. I never had a claim but in later years, there have been several problems with their accounting and record keeping. I switched to Progressive about 2 years ago and though I've had no claims, the general service has been great and I've just found them to be much easier to deal with, than any of the previous companies.

I'm happy with progressive but I haven't had to file a claim yet. I've heard both happy stories and horror stories about claims with progressive but I've heard the same stories about other companies too.

I'm 19 and full coverage with $500 deductibles on my Concours is $434 a year, I don't think that's bad at all.

I'm curious if anyone has noticed something about Progressive's rates. In getting quotes for various bikes, I've noticed that bikes produced before 1986 (or maybe 1985) all seem to have a minimum premium. For instance, a 1983 Honda CB750, my premium would be $451.47/year. For a 1992 CB750, the premium is only $286.57/year. Doesn't make any sense to me. I've found out that, for older bikes, Geico is actually cheaper for me, whereas Progressive is cheaper for newer bikes. Just something to keep in mind for you guys who are looking for older bikes.

Hummm...I wonder if there was some type of substantial braking or suspension upgrade...a dramatic increase for older replacement parts....or a belief (presumption) that the 10 year age difference means the newer one is in better shape?

I don't like the idea of promoting ANY Corporation out there BUT, we got ALL our vehicles with Progressive right now - so far so good. I'm saying because of my age (51), married, homeowner, non-smoker, NO Points / NO DUI / NO accidents (27+ years) and insuring multi-vehicles (blah-blah-blahโ€ฆ) they're giving me some fantastic discounts or something?! My wife's Gi-Normous SUV sure is a huge chunk for insurance, but the bikes barely amount to nothin'! I pay less now for FULL coverage on multi-bikes then I did for just liability only years ago on one scoot! Most of my life I was my 'own insurance company' (except Liability). I'm thinking the 10's of 1,000's of dollars of insurance premiums I saved over the years on Comprehensive & Collision Insurance comes to easily $20-30,000?! Yes, itโ€™s a gamble but so is everything โ€“ never the less Iโ€™m glad I at least made it TO the point I could again afford FULL coverage โ€“ ridiculous but it does feel good having it โ€“ especially affordably. And hope to gawd I donโ€™t NEVER need it againโ€ฆ.!!! Nuffโ€™ said.

I switched to Progressive years and years ago because their rates (with the same coverage) saved me over $800 a year at the time. I have been with them ever since.

I have never had to process a claim with them when it came to my motorcycle, but I have processed claims with them with one of my vehicles on two occasions. Neither time did I have any heart ache over the ordeal, in fact, I was better off afterwards.

The last time I visited them, I had been sideswiped by a vehicle. The damage was repaired w/o issue. While I was speaking with the adjuster I showed him some damage on the front of my vehicle from where rocks had chipped paint and I had struck a tire. He said that they could only repair the chipped paint in the grill. However, when I returned to pick it up, they had repainted all of the damage! :D

I've been very satisfied with Progressive.

iamjustifyd,......I have Progressive and I like it. And like some of the other members have stated, I haven't had to make a claim yet. I have Citizens Insurance on my cars, and here in Michigan, they're one of the cheapest and one of the best. I have had to make a couple of claims with Citizens on my cars and no problems.

Here in Michigan, if you live in or are close to Detroit, the more expensive any type of insurance is. The further you get away from Detroit, the cheaper
the insurance is. The people who live in the center, western part of the state, northern lower peninsula or upper peninsula don't pay half as much as we do here in the Detroit area.

I just filled my first claim with Progressive for a motorcycle yesterday. I was an idiot lock the front brake during a panic stop. The bike went over to the left and I went off to the right. The bike slid into the back of a jeep and slid past it. The bike needs a fair bit of work but I am OK just a little sore. I had no problems reporting the claim and I will let you guys know how the rest of the process goes.

Well I had a nice long talk with my clam rep today. We're gonna have a conference call with my shop tomorrow and set the pickup of the bike and a time for the claim rep to do his estimate. One really cool thing I didn't know is that the accessory coverage covers anything that was not on the bike when it rolled of the assembly line. Including anything I made myself and all my safety gear. I just have to send anything I want replaced to the shop with the bike so the claim rep can render it unusable (cut the strap on the helmet, etc). So I'm getting a new helmet even though it wasn't damaged in the wreck.:D

I have used Progressive for about 5 or 6 years now for my motorcycle insurance. I have nothing but good things to say about them. One time a minivan turned left in front of me. I ended up going down while trying to avoid hitting the moron. The bike and I were both pretty beat up. I didn't report it to Progressive because I didn't actually strike the van; and, the van hauled ass from the scene so I couldn't get their insurance info either. Anyway, about 6 months later I was reading the fine print on my policy and realized that I was covered for hit and runs (even if I didn't actually make contact with the other vehicle) under the uninsured/under insured part of my policy. I called Progressive and they covered me even though I was reporting the accident 6 months later!!!

They also charge me $6 a year for road service. I have been towed many times now for this $6/year charge (flat tires, broken clutch cable, engine problem, etc.). They tow your bike up to 15 miles for absolutely no charge. I donโ€™t know how they can afford to offer that, but Iโ€™m sure glad they do!

Im surprized no one has mentioned anything about how the ins companies figure thier rates. Some go by displacement (cc of motor), some by type (sport, standard, cruiser) some go by actual value, and they all seem to have a modifier for age. So figure out what you want covered and call around. You will be surprized in the different quotes you recieve. Personally I have progressive since they were the cheapest and I only have liability on my bikes. Im paying a little over $300.00 a year on 4 bikes(2 almost new) and 3 riders, to include a teenager. No one else even came close.

So, I just bought insurance through United Marine Underwriters today, although their motorcycle insurance is through American Modern Insurance. After a quick search on the Better Business Bureau, I felt that it was a good choice, especially since I'm only going with liability (most gripes people have involve collision/comprehensive claims anyway, regardless of the insurer). I paid $179/year for a 1983 Kawasaki KZ550. Progressive wanted $451/year, while Geico wanted $530/year. Progressive is weird because after a certain year (mid-80s), all of my quotes were the same, regardless of the bike. Geico is expensive for someone with under a year of experience (at least around here). Once I get a year of experience, that $530/year premium would drop to nearly $200/year.

I got thru Progressive.....just legally require liability.

$75 per bike on my 4 "regular" bikes....regardless of age and size.

$125 per bike on my crotch rockets....regardless of age and size.

Im guessing full coverage would eat me alive....but I ride cheap **** so I will skip it.
