Hey guys, Im looking to upgrade, im just getting reviews/opinions on different types of bikes. Right now im riding an 84 Honda Shadow VT700, 500lb 62hp 42lb torque. I dont know if I want a cruiser upgrade or a naked upgrade. Just weighing my options right now. One of the bikes im interested in is the Monster.

Ive read the 696 Monster makes an OK first bike, if your careful. With that in mind im wondering If I were to purchase one, should it be the 696 or 796? Are there any noticeable differences between the two? Thanks for any info guys!

If you can afford it the baby monster is suppose to be a great all around bike you wont grow out of anytime soon. Ive been looking into one to also and found that they are suppose to require alot of maintenance. the desmo valve system is extremely well engineered and ive heard the ony reason any ducati has a redline is to keep the piston from moving so fast it melts (it an exageration but you get the point, no valve float). I'm also looking at SVs, buells, and other naked twins as well as possibly building a one off street tracker sportster.

After Nov Ill be able to afford one (about 90% sure), and i know the 796 is only 1000 difference from the 696 so im just wondering which would be best. Ive read the Monster 1100 evo is a beast, but only in a straight line,if thats the case id rather get a Diavel.

Ive read the same regarding maintenance, but if you take care of the bike it'll treat you right. Its like having a supermodel girlfriend lol.

Ive been looking at the Buells as well, the Speed/Street Triple. But I kinda want the Duc more...haha

yeah theres one just south of me, black with red frame, gorgeous. if i could afford it i would buy it in a second, i love the monsters and the hypermotard, My fiance wants me to get the 898 little sportbike, either way, i'd love to have it. but for now i will probablly get an sv or something, unless she buys it for me. she was gonna get the 1125R for me if i quit smoking but she caught me in a lie, same way i missed out on a new car. (she has connections and couldve gotten a new V6 mustang for half, i was planning on sending to shelby in tampa for the cs6 kit)

Oh yeah man that black with red...absolutely stunning! If I had the money id snatch one up in heartbeat lol. but if all goes well come nov ill be in dealerships taking them for test rides. Just realized in my previous post I said Buell Street Triple, I meant Triumph haha.

Another bike...that i think is gorgeous! is the MV Agusta Brutale. It looks like the monster, just more expensive I believe lol. Oh damn, Shelby tuned Mustang?nice. sucks about the smoking thing, try a nicotine patch? idk... lol

after missing out on the bike i quit cold turkey. its been 4 years. thats the second time i quit the first i stopped was when i was 16 had been stealing em from my dad since i was 8.

the MV is a beaut too, not sure if they still do but HD owned the rights for awhile. i would love to have a vintage looking bike, Duc sport1000 or HD street tracker sporty, and a modern one too

Hey man good for you! I hope you keep it up. And those vintage Ducatis are very nice, the sport classic 1000 is my favorite one.

Jin- Thanks for the suggestion man! The Shiver 750 judging by the reviews is the far superior motorcycle.

I was thinking, do you think id be alright on a Triumph Street Triple R? Its 9k and has 50lb of torque with 105hp at 11k rpm.
I doubt id ever rev it that high (I shift at about 3-4k rpm on my shadow) and was wondering what your opinion would be of the Street Triple. The parts are alot easier and LESS expensive than the Italians. Only drawback is it isnt a V Twin. but im willing to overlook that lol.

haha nice! I knew the Street/Speed Triple got rave reviews but I didnt know they were THAT good! Awesome :] well since this will be my second bike, and the experience I have is from a cruisr style bike, I think ill stick with the Street Triple, the Triple R in fact :] The Speed Triple I think would be too much for me. Plus 9 vs 11 thousand....a high performing naked bike under 10k? Yes please :D

Regardless of what you buy, it is far more enjoyable to have two different bikes at your beck and call. I have the 550 street bike and 650 dual sport. The only thing better would be to have another genre of bikes... and I'm working on that with the 500 street tracker.
