Just got a 1975 Cb 360 with just over 11,000 miles. He said that he just had the carbs rebuilt not long ago but that it burned a little oil in the left hand cylinder. Picked it up (gave $700) started to drive it back and when i stoped at a gas station about 30 miles down the road i relized it had a problem when i went to start it back up i noticed that it was leaking gas out of the left muffler. anyway long story short took 7 gallons to get back then noticed gas in oil couldnt get the rmps up over 5,500 with out downshifting down a hill . its my first bike and any help would be great

It sounds like you are getting too much gas into the cylinders. This could be a bad fuel pet**** or poor carburetion. Even though the carbs were rebuilt it doesn't mean they are properly snyched or have clean and correct parts in them. Burning in the left hand cylinder would tell me it is running hot, which would be a carburetor issue as well.

If you have a needle valve hung open at the float it can let gas just run through.

If it's had gas running straight through I'd check to see if the plug is fouled out.

All it takes to run is compression, spark (in time) and the right fuel/air mix. You've verified most of 2 out of 3.

I think my plug wire is shorting out I noticed wear on the bottom of the wire looked like it was rubing on the head Ill pull the tank and replace the wire see if that helps Iam hoping it will be that easy

Fingers crossed for ya! Back in my "yoot" I bought an old VW. A guy did a tune up with new wires, new plugs and some other stuff. When it would not start he kinda twisted off and beat all the windows out. I got it cheap and found all the glass used at a reasonable price that included installing the windshield. Anyway - all it was - wrong plug wires. As soon as I changed them it fired right off. This remains (31 years later!) the only car I bought, repaired and sold and really, truely made a profit on! Let us know! :D
