Anyone watching this on discovery?

My thoughts exactly.
When the whole discovery channel/chopper/biker build off thing started a few years back Jesse had a documentary of sorts. I have always thought he fabricates better bikes. Don't get me wrong I'll take one from each company but Jesse has my vote and it's not even done yet.
OCC and PJD just ASSEMBLE expensive bikes, the barely fabricate.

This is getting Pathetic:

OCC: has yet to build anything. All outside companies have been building and putting the bike together.

PJD: again, all outside companies building the parts.

How can you say you BUILT a bike if you get other people to build and make the parts for you?

Hence why I referred to the Teutels as glorified kit builders. Not that they don't do some of their own fabrication, because they do make fuel tanks and whatnot.

I've not been a dedicated American Chopper watcher because the show seemed to be more about Paul Sr. needing anger management classes, and Paul Jr being an egotistical brat. The show doesn't seem to showcase much of fabrication they actually do, because it focused too much on the drama of the dysfunctional family side of things.

Always looks like they take a pre built frame, fab up an exhaust, fuel tank and fenders, then send everything off to be painted/chromed.

Every time I've seen Jesse on T.V doing his thing- he's been doing a hell of a lot of crafting, with little idiotic drama polluting the process.

Gotta be honest--the PJD thing is Guggenheim/Art Museum stuff. Really pretty, really different. Very, very steam punk.

JJ's bike is pretty stereotypical--it's a cool chopper.

OCC. Apparently they saw the PJD "Gears of War" trike and decided to one up it...which is odd. It's outside the box. And the room. And the building. Makes no sense. Is utterly useless and an exercise is in...hubris? BUT then again they seem to know they're gonna get spanked so they just did whatever they heck they wanted.

Sr. didn't build a bike and that is a shame because he(OCC) has the means to build an awesome bike, anyone that watches the show would know that. His POW bike is a perfect example of the ability he has, granted he is by no means a one man show, but who is these days.

Jr. did his typical thing, making something that is brilliant, but should never be on the road. Like CaptCrash said his bike belongs in a museum, along with the majority of the bikes he builds. He may not have built it from the ground up but credit is due. How many of us, here could honestly have the vision to build a machine like that.

JJ, I was a little disappointed with. The bike was great but it could have been so much better. He has skills that very few people can even come close to. I do wish he would venture out and build something slightly more modern. His bike is what he set out for it to be; it is a ride-able, functioning bike. It is a bike you could take out and ride mile after mile without having to worry about things like how much the 26 inch tire is going to cost to replace.

In all honesty I was let down by all three of the builders. I was expecting everyone to bring their a game but only one brought that, and one of the other two didn't even bring the right game. Oh well, I live near the home of the Browns, Indians, and Cavs, in this area we have a saying that fits well here; there is always next year.

I think JJ made that exact same argument last night. His bikes are built for the long haul.

That said I was just so fascinated by Jr.'s bike. The gimmicky exhaust out of the tank didn't do much for me but the propeller blade wheels just totally did it for me.

Sr's "bike" is a joke of a monstrosity. Should have blown it up instead of the car outside Jr's shop.

JJ's bike is absolutely gorgeous.

IMO, these bikes are way played out and I personally think they are horrible. Horrible looking, and likely horrible to ride for any distance.

I think that these guys are good at what they do, but what they do is awful.

I would have watched the show if they put someone with a different, and IMO, BETTER, bike building style, like someone on the Wrenchmonkees team, or someone from roland sands designs, or from deaus ex machina.

Fact is Jesse James may be a jerk for a spouse but with his rotary engined bike, the Honda 1800, and a few others he built that were outside the box yet ridable, he is a better builder than either of the Pauls and on par with the best in the country. He actually cuts and builds rather than farm out the work. His isn't gimmicks, his is good design. But having not seen, nor caring to see any of the three, I would say it's all ego, money, and TV driven ****.

James should go back to building stuff like he did. I don't know what the Pauls can go back to... maybe kit biking it some more.

(Pardon the snip)

"I would say it's all ego, money, and TV driven ****."

-You got it Kemosabe. I'd say the most popular "bike builder" is whoever is best at marketing themselves.

"James should go back to building stuff like he did. I don't know what the Pauls can go back to..."

James has been whining for maybe ten years about how he doesn't like all the attention and how he just wants to build bikes. He wants to get back to his roots and bend some steel... He's a great metal fabricator! He has the funds and the resources to make whatever he wants to! So what's stopping him? Leave the TV and publicity and all that aside and go put some steel under that Fokker hammer, Dude.

The Teutuls made their coin, and pay their bills, with ornamental iron and such. They're probably better at marketing themselves then Jesse is, and they too have some talented workers in their shop and they made some serious bank from this silly "chopper" craze, and they tasted the high life for sure, but in the end, it will probably be the decorative iron business that keeps food on their table. (That's just a guess on my part, of course.)
