I have a 1974 Honda CB750 four. The bike idles fine, and revs well in neutral. The problem is when I'm trying to get going or accelerate. Unless I'm going with a really strong wind to my back, or down a hill, it is a chore to get the bike up to 60 mph. Also, If I'm trying to accelerate, and open up the throttle all the way, it starts to die out.

The exhaust is very rusted. I don't know if it is rusted enough so that there isn't sufficient back-pressure, or if that would even affect it.

any help is appreciated.

What are your carbs like? What is the condition of your throttle cable? Is it an old throttle cable? What I suggest you do is first think about cleaning your carbs, you could have clogged jets. Next I would also think about either lubricating your throttle cable if it is an original equipement one or replacing it with a new one. Try that if either one of those things does not solve the problem then check to see if you have a blockage in your fuel lines or your petcock.

Thanks. The carbs should be relatively clean. My father in law cleaned them when he bought the bike last August. I bought it from him as a project, because he just got a '92 Gold Wing. I replaced the fuel lines because there was one on that was badly kinked, and the others were just old. It still didn't fix the problem. There is one see-through orange filter on each fuel line. Neither have debris in them. I will check for debris in the screen in the petcock. If that doesn't work I will pull the carbs off and look at them to make sure they're good.

Thanks
