My son has recently purchased a 2017 Yamaha SRC 950. He just loves this bike. He is taking some general repair courses as he wants to maintain it himself. Anybody out there have any thoughts on some tools he might need to keep his bike running. He has torque wrenches and a good selection of sockets, along with the Service Manual. I am thinking of any tools that might be unique to this bike that would make maintenance easier. Any electronics that would be good to have? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Christmas is coming and I want to get him something he would really want for his bike.
Thanks for any suggestions.

For tools I'd recommend a 100ish piece mechanics set from Craftsman or some other brand with reputation. Something Like This with a lot of wrenches, sockets, and allen keys. Most of these name-brand toolkits also come with lifetime warranties, so it'll probably be the last one he buys for a very long time. The screwdriver with interchangeable bits is also included and that's a lifesaver. There aren't many tool he'd need "specially" for his bike, the only three I can think of is maybe a clutch tool, a compression tool for engine PSI testing, and a volt reader. The service manual and simple sockets / wrenches will be enough to cover 99% of work the bike will need. If he's serious about working on his bike a great gift for him would be a motorcycle lift, preferably not from Harbor Freight. If he only has a couple tools here and there and not a full set, a full 100 piece set of tools would also be a great lifetime gift. Motorcycle battery tenders (if he doesn't have one already) can be a pretty useful gift aswell. If he doesn't have any bluetooth in his helmet, you can buy him a Sena; it's a bluetooth device you install into helmets. He can answer phone calls, listen to music or his GPS, call with other riders that have bluetooth, all handsfree. Maybe a phone mount by a reputable brand aswell, hm.. maybe this is just my Christmas list afterall. Hahaha, goodluck!

Hey, Red Rooster, thanks for your ideas. He is pretty particular about his tools. He has a set of Craftsman sockets and 2 torque wrenches. Like you, he only wants to buy once! I have a Sena set in my and my wife's helmets for on the sxs. I hadn't thought of that for him in terms of phone calls, music and GPS. He is just installing a GPS unit in his bike so the Sena would probably be a good idea. He has a battery tender (made him get one!). The idea of a lift is a great one. Which one would you recommend? I see Harbor Freight is off your list. Thanks again for your input!

Is that the air cooled, single overhead cam V-Twin Yamaha calls The Bolt? If so...
You might think about getting feeler gauges for adjusting the valve lash and hand tools small enough to get in there.
Vacuum gauges for setting throttle body synch and a tension gauge for adjusting the drive belt.
Sounds like you pretty much got everything else covered.
