How do I remove the shifter shaft on a Yamaha sr250 to replace the torsion spring. It seems that I'm going to have to split the crank case. That involves pulling the engine and removing the head and all that's involved with that. A lot of work for one small spring.

If it's behind the side cover, opening the case is the likely option

Seems like there is a cerclip on the shaft inside the case that is preventing it from coming out. The manual doesn't show anything on it or it's removal. All I can see is what the parts diagram shows.
