I was comparing a sv650 to a buell xb9 the only difference is 30 hp would you guys recommend a xb9? Anyone started on one?

Another recommendation for the SV650. Look for a 2003 or newer fuel injected model. The quarter mile times are nearly identical for the 2 machines so the HP difference is meaningless.

There's a lot to like about the SV: liquid cooled, 6 speeds, excellent brakes with shorter stopping distances from 60mph than the Buell, 56" wheelbase is more forgiving to a new rider than the Buell's stubby 52".

Many do not believe the HP figures posted by Buell.
There is a lot more to choosing a bike than HP numbers. Especially as a first bike. And you did not tell us about any riding experience.

When I bought my SV650, Frank the salesman, was very good in how he asked the questions about my license and ability.
