Hey Guys/gals I've had my bike for a month now and will be putting it do for about 15 months for my deployment in 2 weeks. Any special thing I need to do. I was told it would be fine minus a dead battery, but the dealer said I should winterize it. Which is correct?? I probably go with what the dealer said because I would hate for anything to go wrong with my brand new bike

I'm not sure I would drain the oil, but over that amout of time I'd sure be tempted to either drain the gasoline and carberator bowls, or put some gasoline stabilizer in it (Sea Foam?) and run it a bit to get it through the system. After 15 months the gasoline is going to laqure in there I would suspect.

If you stabilize the gasoline, then maybe have somebody start it ever month or so???

Depending upon the bike, maybe a stand that gets the tires up off the ground so you don't get a flat spot in 15 months???

I'm guessing here.

Wel thanks guys. I guess I'll do whatever the dealer says, after all when something goes wrong with my 07 Spirit they can't claim it's because I didn't do this or that. Yea 15 months suck but that's part of my life as a Soldier.

Why drain the oil? Just do an oil change when you put it back on the road again.
As a gasoline engine runs it can make acid, I forget what kind sulfuric I think, due to the combustion process that can (and will) pit bearings, bearing surfaces and gears. tear down an engine that sat for a long time with dirty oil in it. You'll see black lines and pits on steel surfaces.

Good luck with your deployment and stay safe.
