the engines on both are the same from 03-07 there has been no big changes in 2004 they uped the roadstar from a 1600 to a 1700 so i would prolly get the 1700. The new 2008 1700 are fuel injected for the price difference it might be advisable to go new.
Go For the Roadstar

Wow.. That's funny. I had the same exact question this past January. I actually put a down payment on a 2007 V-Star 1100 Silverado. I just sold my '85 Virago 1000 to buy the 1100. I sat on a Roadstar Silverado and thought that this bike is Too Big. Before I started the final paperwork for the V-Star, The salesman asked if I wanted to take a test drive on the 2007 Roadstar. Man..I wasn't on the test ride for more than five miles and I said to myself. THIS IS MY Bike. I am sooo glad went bigger. I love my Roadstar Silverado. I feels like I am driving a Cadillac. If money is no problem, GO Big, you will not regret it. If you have any questions about the Roadstar Let me know. I will be happy to answer them. The Roadstar is an AWESOME Bike.
GO WITH THE ROADSTAR. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED.I TRADED MY 1100 VSTAR IN THIS SUMMER FOR ONE AND I LOVE IT. THE RIDE IS 10 TIMES BETTER THEN THE VSTAR. DON'T GET ME WRONG THE VSTAR IS A GREAT BIKE BUT THE ROADSTAR IS THE BEST FOR COMFORT
