I found that incorporating a semi-regular routine (3-4 times/week) of serious stretching and exercise for my core helped immensely. I was putting way too much pressure on my shoulders/arms/wrists when I first started riding. It was so bad I thought I'd have to sell the bike and get something more upright. A couple years later and I'm in much better health and using much better body posture! Wrists no longer hurt, so win/win!
