Me and my lady went for a nice ride on the Street Glide to a nice restaurant in Evansville, Ind. It has been a beautiful day.

I had very nice commute to and from work again today. I also stopped to see dad at the nursing home. He isn't doing so well but with his dyeing breath is still talking about getting another bike.

From hundreds of miles away, and without being even aware of it, your Dad made a guy he's never met smile as broad a grin as he's had all day.

New Ride

I got a new Vulcan mean streak 1500. I bought this bike, though the jump in displacement is so much higher than I am used to(400cc), because the person was essentially throwing her away by putting her as a down payment on a car and the car lot only gave 2,000 for her. This bike was garage kept and 2,549 miles.

I found out about the trade so I offered to pay the 2k cash for title and registration to be signed over to me. They did. Np.

The thing is, this bike is more bike than I have ever handled by a lot. So I get nervous with her. Shes so strong and seems to just only want to run fast.

I don't ride her fast though. I am going to name her Helga I think.

Anyways

Today though, I was distracted by paying such close attention to her riding in that i unconsciously set my helmet on the bike on the far back (which i never do); Then I went into the store to pay for gas, pumped the gas, and was still so distracted thinking about her that I kickstand up, first gear, rolled out, took a right on the main road and THEN realized, helmet!!!! It was gone... i pulled into a empty car lot to loop around and go back. Before I pulled out a truck pulled in and was like... 'Hey! I got your helmet for you!!' Haha... Embarrassment!! :frown:

Sorry for the Wall O' Text

That kind of choked me up!

Good on you for visiting your Dad! Do it often - you will never regret it.

My Dad was a rider in the 1930s and 40s and when he married mom, he gave up motorcycles for good. When I got my first bike 50 years ago, he was as proud as he could be! Due to geography I didn't get to see him as much as I should have and he has been gone a long time now and I miss him .... but I am back to riding a motorcycle and I know he is smiling!
Vixxen, that race horse will only go as fast as you tell her to.

:)
I should be good to go for the trip to Barber now, unless I change my mind about the front tire and decide to put a new one on. I'd rather not spend $125 right now and there is still a bit of tread left on the OEM Metzeler. I have changed out the rear a while ago with a Pirelli Scorpion Trail and want to do the same for the front. I am still waffling about changing it, maybe if another sales check comes in soon I'll make up my mind.

Cheers,

Mike
Hmmmm change the tire now or worry about it during the entire trip hmmmmmm
I got & installed a new GPS! A Garmin Montana 600 & it came with Garmins AMPS quick release bracket & RAM mount. Connects to the bikes electrical so the backlight can stay on all the time. Pretty sweet, and the display is twice as big as my previous Oregon 450 I was using.

Yeah, you're right, the new tire is on its way here.
It was a beautiful day here in northern Illinois, so once the chores were done my wife and I went out for a ride. Heading west in the mid-afternoon so that my return would be to the East with the sun behind me we rode through some rolling hills and beautiful farmland. But on the way home a strong gusting wind from the South made it really hard work. Gusts were strong enough to almost push me out of my lane and I was constantly having to battle the wind. Although it was tiring it was still a good ride. The wind, however, really made my wife nervous and she was just relieved to make it home safely. We ended up doing about 150 miles and then called it a day. I know that we don't have that many riding days left this year so I try to get out as much as I can. As I get older the winters seem to last longer and my bike will keep calling me from deep in the garage!
Went to work on it. I love hauling ass early in the morning on 441 on a Saturday. No traffic. Sometimes I think it is a good thing my speedo doesn't work. Might make me feel bad if I knew how fast I was going.
Rode the Classic out to the Yamaha store and got a new front tire.

Then took the Stryker out for a ride.

Soon I'll be riding the Stryker to work.
Went for a nice ride today. The weather was perfect. Little windy, but not to bad. Visited with Dad for a bit. Says he likes it that I'm riding now, I visit more often. It's a nice ride up his way. Still worries a bit, but knows I ride safe. Went up to Topsmead State park, tucked away in the woods. Lots and lots of land. Would hate to have to mow that yard...
It was such a nice day here in Jersey that I just HAD to hit the road for a while. I headed out through the backroads to Hackettstown NJ and stopped for lunch. Afterwards, I headed further west on some narrow roads that I'd never ridden before, eventually ending up in Glen Gardner at the home of a friend who wasn't home. Rats. So, I headed southeast to another friend's place in Califon, and he WAS home. Had a nice visit with him and then headed northeast again towards home.
I ended up with 85 miles on the bike, which may not sound like much, but I was riding my Honda Trail 90. That's a 90cc engine, 7 blistering horsepower, and an average cruising speed of about 35 to 40 mph. And I used less than $3 worth of gas for the entire day.
Can't beat it with a stick!

It's kind of like dog years, I think.

85 miles on a Honda 90 is equal to maybe 270 miles on a cruiser?

Maybe 46 on a sportbike?

:)

LOL!!! That sounds about right, Eye! It's fun no matter how ya figure it!
Today we did our dim sum ride. Twice a year a group of us get together for a spirited ride followed by dim sum in Cary, NC.

So many northerners live in Cary that the locals joke the name of the town is an acronym meaning "Containment Area for Relocated Yankees".
Readjusted all my floorboards on the classic, they are all perfect now. I put 2in extensions on my wife's floorboards, moved them forward, got them tilted just right then she tested, and we adjusted, and adjusted, and ended up exactly where I had them.

Went for a ride on the classic around the ridge, stopped and showed off the bike to my cousin that hadn't seen it. Came back and waited for wife to get off work but she wanted to go solo on her bike around town and wanted son and I to go out of town, so we went for the ridge.

We discovered on a nice sunny day in September, 5pm is not a good time to go out for fun on the curves.
Another beautiful day of riding to work.
Got my new Pirelli Scorpion Trail for the front of the Bonnie. Last night got the old Metz off and went to put on the new tire. Got one side on and no matter what I did I could not get the tube in and the stem through the hole. I struggled for an hour at least before telling myself "F it!" I'll take it in today. But I feel like a complete freakin' failure. I've changed the tires on the CB350, but I guess these made to be tubeless tires are a different beast (I am running them with tubes as I have spoked wheels).

Cheers,

Mike
