Commuting as usual.
20F this morning but a crystal clear day, I was a bit late for work and the days are getting longer, I watched the sun rise over Manhattan as I rolled into the airport. 10 miles away and the buildings looked like they were close enough to touch, it was that clear!
Winter is back, thank goodness for heated gear :)
I think I need to try parking in a different spot, just for a different picture, but this was today :)

Change them yourself, it's not that hard.
Ive considered it, but dont trust my moto mechanic skills enough, and dont you need an air compressor and special tools and such? I think im gonna rent a cage, and drop them off at cycle gear.

Was determined to get the wife's Sportster running today. Went out about 9:00 A.M., opened up the shop, darn she sure is dusty, got some tools out and went to work. It has been on a battery maintainer for two days now. I pulled the side cover off, got my meter and checked the battery, 12.40 volts.

I thought, not to bad, maybe it will start. Got on, hit the starter and in about 5 seconds it slowed way down. Checked the battery again right away, 12.07 volts. I'm thinking its time for a new battery. There's a sticker on the inside of the side cover concerning battery removal. This little sticker says to remove the negative cable first. Okay.

Brain fart, I guess. I moved to the other side to remove the other side cover so I can get to the negative cable. Oh, forgot, there's an oil tank there. So after fiddling around some I et the seat off. Well that's no help, can't get to the battery. Well, negative cable is coming off second. Got positive side off and, would one more inch of cable be too much to ask for HD?

Sliding the battery out on the left side, can't get a screwdriver in straight, can't find a 10mm socket but there's no room anyway, and I finally found my 10mm combination wrench, finally. Getting that cable off would have been a lot easier with three hands and a drop light that didn't want to keep rolling over and putting everything in the dark!

Finally it's out. Checking online, everyone has a battery that will fit. Wal-Mart, Autozone, O'Reilly's, NAPA, and Battery Outfitters. I find Battery Outfitters has an AGM battery with enough cca, I think, at a price I can stomach. So run to town and get it, come back home.

Didn't think I would ever get the negative cable attached. Even pulled the battery back out to make sure the screw would go through the hole, and thread onto the nut, it did. Took too long but finally got it. Then the positive side decided to be a pain. I put a small allen wrench behind the nut, so I could get the screw threaded into it. This isn't supposed to be this hard.

Anyway, got the battery installed, finally. Then hooked up the charger to the pig tail. Put side cover and seat back on. Then started dusting it off and got it looking a lot better. I was going to let it sit overnight on charge before starting it, but I just had to try it. Started cranking, full choke on and it popped a couple times then fired up! Oh that sounded good.

Then aired up the saggy tires and put a cover over it. Did I go for a ride? No. I was too hot and sweaty, but I should have rain and colder weather in the forecast now.

Spent yesterday getting her washed and detailed. Then some time today adding more LED’s to get rid of a “dark area” under the trunk. I wonder if ISS can see me at night? View attachment 73192 View attachment 73193
I wouldn't be surprised if they could! Are you signed up for the "Spot the Station" emails to notify you when the ISS is passing overhead near you? We are. I live in the country so it's DARK when the sun goes down. It's super easy to spot it on a clear night.🌟

I went out to the Small barn, a nice 'Hobby' barn and was going to start my Tricycle up and there was no key in the ignition! I always leave the key in. I finally found a new one in the small cubby in front of the tank, slid it in and went through the starting procedure, hit the starter button and it instantly started! I backed it out but couldn't find my Helmet! Finally found it in the corner of a bookshelf in the Attached Garage. By that time, all systems were GO.

I have the Pigtails on the Battery but I was too lazy to hook up the Tender for the winter.

I rode 10 miles into town to Arby's for our Bi-monthly old Farts lunch, where we discuss and solve the worlds problems.

After that, I filled the scoot up with Petrol and rode the arduous 10 miles Home since I couldn't ride further due to a customers Computer deadline!!!!!

Wednesday I have an appointment to have the FIRST service done in Frontenac, Kansas, about 45 miles away. I have owned the Spyder for one year on the 17th!

It was 70 degrees yesterday and I didn't even wear a Jacket---just Dress slacks, Cowboy, short sleeve shirt and Deck shoes!!! Rural roads all the way to town are sure nice!

Prayer breakfast to attend in a neighboring city but I probably won't ride as it may rain.

Have a wonderful weekend my Friends.

Sam:)

It's a lot like changing the tires on your BMX or 10 speed. I use a set of spoons from Amazon and my bicycle tire pump.
