Took the Street Triple out and topped off the tank. Rode around town for a while and actually got the front wheel off the ground, about a couple of inches, in third gear. I was out in the country at the time. I don't take my riding privileges for granted.

I like the swirl pattern. Did you do that?
Yes. It's called, "engine turned," and you see it a lot on the bolts of expensive firearms and machine tools and other things. It's done with special purpose bits, jewelers rouge and accurate positioning equipment, and it's really an art all to itself.

But you can do a poor man's version, like I do, with a drill press, a round wire metal brush, and a plywood positioning jig. I use it a lot when I'm re-doing old brake rotors as it makes a mundane part look rather custom.

I did it on my heat shields because it also hides a LOT of sins, and I suck at sheet metal work.

The guy that built one of my rifles did it to the bolt. He called in jeweling. Has no function other than appearance.

Just came in from installing the Christmas goodies I bought the Bonnie. A retractable, low profile gas cap and extended hand turnable bolts for the seat attachment. Also installed a new bracket that relocates the rear brake caliper from the vulnerable stock position of forward and below the swingarm to above it. It doesn't require new hoses, but the hose does have to be rerouted (not in the non-existent instructions). To do that I had to remove the hose from the caliper, so I put in a Speed Bleeder screw in that I also had bought for Christmas, thinking I would have to bleed the system. After getting everything back together, however, the rear brake still seems solid, so I may not have to rebleed. I will recheck tomorrow, but the garage was getting pretty cold so I bailed for the night. Should be in the forties tonight, which is cold for down here.

Cheers,

Mike

Got a 210 mile blow the cobwebs out ride today after a PGR mission. A tough one. Another PGR member. Very good turn out. On the way home I noticed that by the time I got home I would need an oil change. In my old age I'm hating oil changes. Anyway I proceeded to burn myself on the hot oil. Best time to do it is when it's hot unfortunately. I should have waited more than a half hour though.:)

Well, we checked the tenders today and all is good. Stood and sadly looked at them then covered them back up. They are calling for 8 to 12 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow. Then the temps are supposed to drop to 8 to 10 below with a high of 4 Monday. I know this doesn't compare to what Badlands had/has, but...well, I won't finish what I am thinking. And as I am typing this, they just changed the prediction to some icy mix first then 9 to 13 inches of snow on top of that.

We are warming up it is 20 degrees warmer this morning than it was a 2pm yesterday. 30 degrees with a wintery mix (hurray love ice) in our future.

Took the Bonnie out last night. Back brake is too soft. Guess I will have to bleed. Before going out I did bleed the caliper and got no bubbles at all, so I reckon I need to bleed the hose at the master. I hate to do that, getting brake fluid all over everything. Oh well. Probably do that yesterday and my son has the rest of my day. Going down to 30s in a couple days and want to have it done before that. No heat in the garage.

Cheers,

Mike

Today was my first ride of the New Year. It was 42° and cloudy, but I was able to get out for a couple of hours.

Yesterday I traded my Wrangler for a 2011 BMW 328i with the xDrive AWD option.
