Me and my lady went for a nice ride on the Street Glide to a nice restaurant in Evansville, Ind. It has been a beautiful day.

I got burned by those Silverstar Ultra bulbs once too, they are somewhat brighter, but they only lasted a couple of weeks. Maybe they work better in a car but they don't like motorcycles at all, probably the vibration.
A couple of weeks? You were lucky.

Mine lasted all of 4 days. On the 5th day it went back to Walmart. I'll be damned if I'm gonna pay $25 for a bulb and it not even last a week. And yes, I even used latex gloves so no oil from my fingers woul get on the bulb...Made no difference.

I put a set of heated grips on my older Vision.
I was so spoiled by the heat on my 16 that I was making excuses to myself to ride the new one to work instead of the designated 'commuter' bike. I found a set of used factory heated grips for a good price on ebay, installed them in about an hour on Monday, and I've been riding the 08 to work in 28 degree weather with just normal leather gloves the last 2 days :) The heated seat of the 16 I really don't miss, but the grips are a godsend.

I did have some trouble this morning on my ride into work at 0300, it was a weird weather day, humid and with very varied temperatures, I saw as high as 45 and as low as 29, multiple times, especially as the road ran alongside 2 rivers. This caused fog, which was bad enough, and then FREEZING fog which was even worse. The ground was too warm to freeze but my windshield wasn't and it totally iced over twice, one time it was 1/8 inch thick. I lowered it just enough to peek over and it worked, but I had to be careful, too low and my helmet started getting water on it and probably would have frozen too. I also ran into the one drawback of LED headlights, they run so cool that they lens gets fogged and can even freeze, which cuts into the light output quite badly! So there I was with a somewhat fogged helmet visor, peering over an opaque white windshield covered in ice, trying to see through the fog any lurking deer by a very dim headlight. It was an 'interesting' ride!

I discovered a very important fact today.
Just file this away in case it ever comes up.
A Victory Vision with trunk will easily hold 5 dozen large New York size bagels, (which filled 5 plastic grocery bags), 2 pounds of cream cheese and a pound of butter, with room left for a medium size day pack full of clothes. My crew at work met a tough goal this month for the first time in recorded history and I wanted to treat them so I took a little detour on the way into work get some of the best bagels I have ever eaten. I was running late so I didn't get a picture but this is the same place and the same bike, just imagine 4 dozen more bagels, and it was dark, and a lot colder at 4 am.

Hello AIIZON,

Am I to think the helmet was so NOT approved by D.O.T. or SNELL? did this company lead you to believe it was? How is the bike? and U for that matter?
Hello Mike721,

Nice that your ride can carry lots of munchies, we all have to eat, right? But don't you worry about hitting an ice patch in 28 degree weather? Frankly I don't think it is too likely but is it impossible?

Bagels are okay but more importantly that means carefully packed that's a case of beer storage.
Monday I had cleaned up the Snorty1200 washed and waxed the tank an front fender, chrome covers over the headers, and she looked a lot better, but her muffs, yeah hers needed some work, so with some 000 steel wool an wd-40 I cleaned them. I guess chrome looses its lustre after a while, between the heat an weather.

No idea what the front lower forks are made of but they cleaned up pretty good will hit'em up with NEV'R DULL stuff works great, thought it was just for a good piece of brass . . .

Hear about the guy who tried to blow up a school bus filled with ankle biters? yup , he burned his lips on the tail pipe. . .

Famous singer admitted to hospital This morning Los Angelos Ca. Nat King Cole was admitted to the hospital, turns out he got too close to the fireplace an roasted his chestnuts . . .

A couple of cases of beer!
I brought home more than a case of wine in my Vision from a couple of days in the NY Finger Lakes wine region, the bottles carefully wrapped in my clothing. My wife had the rest of the case in her bike. If we wanted more I could have strapped a whole case to my back seat too..I should have, we drank it all and now it's too cold up there to ride until spring.

I was a bit concerned, wet and cold can be an issue, it surprised me yesterday how wet it was out. That freezing fog can be treacherous, I was on the lookout for signs of ice for sure.

Today was actually colder but bone dry, I had no worries at all riding in this morning in glorious 26 degree weather.

My wife and I winterized most of the bikes a week ago, 2 are still ready to go but with bad weather and salt on the roads they have been waiting ..maybe soon though after todays rainstorm..might still get in a few rides this year!

This is from the winterizing night, a balmy 24F, snow on everything but the roads, we took each bike for a nice 20 minute ride to get the stabil all mixed into them and then plugged them in to life support...just in time, 4 hours later as I caged it to work the roads were snow covered.

Reinstalled the rear fender and original blinker lights to replace the aftermarket fender eliminator that the prior owner had installed. The Aftermarket had turn signals the size of a quarter and no rear fender which has a purpose. Safety first in my opinion and with adding the OEM back on, my Yami FZ8 looks like a bat mobile/bike. Big improvement

Black ice is or can be almost invisible on some roads and is very dangerous:surprise:

About 5 years ago, at about 9 AM, I was on my way about 30 miles east to pickup some tractor maintenance items for one of my tractors, on a beautiful and straight, rural country road, doing about 60 mph in my Pickup and I noticed that it was 30 degrees out but bright and sunny with blue skies. There was some light snow on the ground in patches in the fields:smile_big:

My thousand yard stare noticed some flashing red and blue lights in the road ahead and as I approached, a State Trooper stopped me and told me to turn around because there was a lot of cars, pickups and a school bus off the road and in ditches! No one was hurt but the 1/4 mile long patch of 'black ice' was hindering rescue efforts:surprise:

No one even saw the black ice until it was too late. If I'd been a half hour earlier, I'd probably have ended up off the road also.:plain:

We had an invisible 'ICE storm' here once that put down a very thin patina of hard and solid ice at about 3 in the afternoon. My family and I immediately left to drive the 11 miles home and it took us over an hour or more and even with 4 wheel drive vehicles, it was as slick as snot on glass:sad:

A total of 400 vehicles were towed that night in and around Carthage, Missouri.

So, what did I do with my bike today?? NOTHING:grin: It's 22 degrees as I sip my coffee and look west out of my French doors at the snow and ice, all over my lawn and fields. I just saw a MOdot truck drive slowly down the paved road in front of my place, spreading sand on the road.

Stay warm! No one's going to think you are a hero for riding to work in windchill conditions except maybe an Eskimo or Santa Claus:wink2:

Merry Christmas:angel:

Sam:nerd:

Well, I was just out there and checked the air and the gas in my '76 Goldwing.
It's raining right now. Tomorrow morning my bike club is having a Christmas breakfast at a local restaurant. If the rain has ended and the roads are clear, I plan on getting in one last ride.
The '99 Wing and the Trail 90 are on life support 'til spring.
After tomorrow morning, I expect that the '76 will be the same. :crying:
Set the sidecar on a flat sheet of 5/8 ply yesterday. Was going to reconnect Yami today. All outside. But at zero centigrade, about 32 F, is is too cold on the fingers.
Spell check does not like celsius.
Why use a big word when a diminutive one will do.
Have the XS400 running with new mufflers and cross over pipe. Had the carbs off for cleaning. Idle is still a small problem. That can wait for warmer weather too, maybe next summer.

Boy you pushed it the the very end. I've ridden in snow and that's not too bad but slush is another thing altogether.
I saw snow here last night!

There was a house that had a lot of lights and music set up, and they had a snow machine and free cocoa and everything. The snow was actually piling up, a couple of cubic feet worth, so little kids who had never seen it before could make a snowball and touch it.

Other than that it it's in the upper 70's today and sunny. Almost had to wear a long sleeve t-shirt to ride to breakfast.
