Me and my lady went for a nice ride on the Street Glide to a nice restaurant in Evansville, Ind. It has been a beautiful day.

When does it normally start getting cold down there?
Started already. But sometimes we get some sunny winter days with no rain and blue skies. Then it is good to rug up and go for a ride. Just be home before evening when it becomes too cold to ride.

I got the bike back today and all I can say is I'm very pleased with whatever the hell they did to it. Officially they changed out the ignition control module and the speed sensor located in the transmission. The bike feels completely different.

I had not noticed how off it was since it was like this from the time I bought it (and it being my first bike I didn't really know what to listen for). The idle isn't high anymore, I had begun to suspect something though, but runs at a smooth pace. It starts up with little to no questions asked -- before it had a hard time starting without the choke and then the choke wouldn't hold right.

Hell it even rides better. On the way home I somehow got it up to 90mph without even realizing it. I was in the far left lane just testing it out, honestly thought I was going 60 or MAYBE 65. Looked down and a quick "WTF?!" had me slowing down a bit. Before the thing screamed like a scalded ape at anything over 65. It ran perfectly smooth.

Needless to say it was well worth the wait to get it back. Thank God for warranty though or it would have broken the bank ...

I really feel stupid. I didn't not think Australia's seasons were so far off from ours up here in the US. I just Google it lol, I should of stayed in school.
I went on a 115 mile ride on Monday morning. I rode west this time into Kansas, then Oklahoma and back into MO. I had Breakfast on the Quapaw Indian reservation then south through Miami and the Twin Bridges area of Grand Lake then east through Seneca. All of these cities are Indian named.

It never got over 45 degrees and was very cloudy and cold, threatening rain. I was glad to get home and into a hot shower.

I rode the new DL650 V-Strom and continue to be impressed.

It's too cold out now for me to ride @ 41 degrees and foggy.

I guess I was mistaken about Australian weather, I was under the impression that your winter was fairly warm and you could ride all winter, that it never got too cold.
I guess I was wrong!

Put another 5 miles on the Bashan, all in my driveway and a little on the street in front of my house. What can do say, I'm a baby steps kind of guy.

I did get it into second so my shifting is improving greatly. I also have to make tight u turns at both ends when I don't go on to the street, so I'm getting practice with low speed turns. I also finally got up the gumption to glance at the speedometer while riding, and got it up to 30 (indicated, so probably more like 25).

The best part is my driveway has a huge shallow sinkhole in it that fills up with water, so the kids we having a blast watching me make huge roostertails going through it.

I know for the long time riders here, it probably seems silly going off about these little things (or maybe not), but it's fun for me. I think I'm really blessed to have enough driveway to really practice clutch control and low speed turns in a relatively safe environment. Maybe in a few days or weeks I'll actually be up to braving the streets. I figure as long as I push myself out of my comfort zone a bit each time out, I'll get there.

It is great that you have a place to practice. You should continue until you feel comfortable

You are doing better than I did to start. I was beginning to wonder if I would even need any other gear than first. Took me forever to try for second. That was just going way too fast.:D
I rode through bad weather and After school traffic almost hit a jay walker, cool :/
I have disassebled literary half of my bike to get the rear shock assy out. I am going to install adjustable goldwing rear shock on her.

I agree, Critter! I'm really lucky to have the room to practice, and when I out grow the driveway, which I think will be soon, I have a ton of low traffic residential roads as well as a few fairly twisty roads with nearly no traffic. All of this is within about a three mile radius of the house. Because this I can hone my skills in relative safety, and without too much fear of holding up other vehicles.

I will say, I'm rather anxious to be able to start commuting to work with the bikes. Daily driving my Excursion is not a lot of fun at fill up time, but it's the perfect tow vehicle for our frequent camping trips. Still, I'm not going to rush it, it may seem like it's taking me forever to get confident on two wheels, but I figure I'll probably be there by mid June if I keep pushing my comfort zone a little bit each time.

Hog, I know that feeling. When I first tried riding the Shadow last October, I never got it out of first, or even wound out in first, and it scared the bejeesus out of me. The BRC really helped me with the shifting and realizing how much the bike smooths out with speed. I really can't recommend the course enough, I got more out of 5 hours there then the 6 years I rode in my teens and early twenties.

My first bike was a Honda 90 when I was 17. We had no driveway at all.
I learned by taking it out on the city streets near my house and practicing.
Each day I went a little further from home until I got the hang of it.
Wasn't long before my mother didn't see me for dust!

Well JW, kind of depends where in Oz you are - you're talking about a continent there, I used to fly Sydney to Singapore on business, an 8 hour flight and the first 5 1/2 hours was over Australia. Down south in Victoria and South Australia you can get storms right in from the antarctic in winter which is June to September.

Up north in Queensland and Northern Territory the winter is the "Dry", no rain, grass goes brown, and you see more roos and wallabies on the side of the road, and daytime temps are probably in the mid to high 20s C/70s deg F. But the summer (December to March) is the "Wet" in the tropics, rain and the odd cyclone (hurricane to you, tempest to the northern Pacific) and daytime temps will be up in the mid to high 30s C/90s to 100 + deg F and 95% humidity.

Here in New Zealand, we're in the last month of autumn (fall). Getting cooler, we're a temperate climate because we're a couple of islands and the sea warms the winter up a bit. It's low 20s C/mid 60s F max day time temp lately in the north where I live, probably 10 deg C/50 deg F lowest temp at night. Today we had our first fog, the sea is still warm and the night time cool forms tubes of fog along the arms of the harbour, Was a bit of restricted vision this morning on the way to work over our harbour bridge. I'm wearing the liner in my winter jacket now, a neck warmer and my heaviest gloves. But I'll ride all the way through winter unless it's poring down with rain or too windy - New Zealand has its seasons in the right order, summer, dry, warm Dec to Mar, winter, wet, cooler, June to Sept).

Basically we're cool when you're warm, and the other way round.

Most take the frame apart to be sand then the forks to be polished and started painting my engine block
I take "short" rides into the beautiful Ozarks heartland every chance I get and I've been riding about every other day at about 100 to 200 miles per trip.

We have moved our IT-Electronics business to a new location in town and for the next week or so, I have some free time, while the finishing touches are applied.

SW Missouri and NW Arkansas has some of the best riding I've seen if you enjoy the Rural roads and stay off the Interstates.

Thank you LORD for the country!

Sam:biggrin:
I went to pick up a friend then had breakfast with him. Weather is pretty good here.

Replaced the front turn OEM turn signals with some basics from J&P Cycles - actual metal vs. the shiny plastic it came with. The wiring was so bad and spliced 2 or 3 times and I cut all that out and cleaned it up.

Now to investigate what to do with this peeling/bubbling clear coat and spot of rust on the tank. Any suggestions? I'm considering a custom paint eventually but I'd like to preserve this for the time being and prevent worse damage.

Wow! Great picture! I hope you know how rare that is.
Not many families are able to get five generations together.
My grandparents died before I was born. And I have no children.
Very cool picture!
