Me and my lady went for a nice ride on the Street Glide to a nice restaurant in Evansville, Ind. It has been a beautiful day.

Well ... Had my first real near accident and it was completely my fault. They have the highway shut down and everyone moves over to this 494 loop to go around frontage road traffic. Anyway people had been driving ignorant and traffic was higher than usual.

Truck in front of me slowed down and went to move over. My goofy ass decided to go around him and gun it if all things. Traffic in front of him was at a dead stop. Hit the brakes and back tire locked up and slid. Bike started fish tailing but righted itself and I didn't let off the brake until I was going really slow. Bike also cut off ... Not sure if it's suppose to do that ...

But a valuble lesson learned. Won't make that mistake again ...

Did shoot my nerves a bit. But I kept on going and will keep riding today to shake the nerves off. Newbie mistake that won't happen again.
Well any head up butt mistake you survive can be a good lesson. Gunning anytime in traffic is normally not good. If someone in car did it what would you cal them? Patience is key. Glad it is a lesson learned and not a report of wreck though.
In the teens, windchill around 5 didn't even think about them until I started reading this thread.
Took some time today to finish shaping the wind deflectors I made. Got them finished sanded and ready to be powder coated. Started on this project last year and kept refining them to get the best results so it looked pretty *******... hoping the streamlining and powder coating will make them appear better engineered. :icon_cool:
What did you do with your bike today??

It's now 5 degrees outside and the wind is HOWLING!!
What do you THINK I did with my bike today???
Sheeesh!
:coffeescreen:
Back brake.

Revelator: Too much back brake and you locked the rear wheel which stalled the engine.

And today I took the back brake light switch off and apart. Was a bit rusty and cruddie inside. It works now. Also changed the fuel filter and ran it with the enricher thing on making it run too rich. First plan in cleaning the small jets.
Most likely have to get ambitious and take the carbs off for cleaning.
But two more months is all I need from Deep Purple this year.

I power washed the motor and gave a fresh coat of paint
Went to dog-park with the wife and pet. Then went out to my dads (about a 50 miles ride one way) and then we took a 30-40 mile ride around. Then came back home.

Absolutely beautiful day for riding -- 70s and partly cloudy.
I took the cowl off my '07 VStrom & it doesn't look like it has a 30 gallon gas tank now. The actual gas tank is sort of weird looking but I don't mind.
I built a "sandblasting chamber" from 2x4s and plastic for cleaning up motorcycle parts while another snowstorm blew outside. The chamber works fine.

Then my neighbour came over with his big tractor (with a bucket) and lifted the '65 CB160 out of the back of my pickup for me. It is now in the shop waiting its turn for restoration.
How many more months of winter do you have up there Dianne?

If we are lucky, the weather will break in March, if not, it will be mid-April. Last fall we lost our riding weather around mid-October so that would be 5 months by mid-March.

The winter before (2014/2015) I rode until early November and managed to get at least 1 trip a month all winter, except for January. By mid-February we were getting the odd day nice enough to get a bike out.

I'd go south for the winters if I could afford it!

^^^Now that is funny

I would go absolutely batty with that long of a wait to ride...:frown:
The bike in the background doesn't seem to be having much trouble. Maybe we need to go back to the basics.
I think he was waiting for the light :)
Must be one of those long suckers.....we have a few here a bouts...I timed it the other day and it stayed red for 3 minutes and 45 seconds while only on vehicle traveled in the other direction the whole time I was waiting for it to change. sometimes I wonder what the city was thinking
about that intersection....
Today.

I bought new purple grips for Deep Purple, to replace the ones damaged in the recent topple incident. Also a new front brake lever and license plate holder.

I looked longingly at my bike through the garage window while trying not to fall on the ice I was standing on. I made sure I saw all 3 green lights on the battery maintainers glowing then slip slid away back into the house.
Soon....
