It was such a nice day here in Jersey that I just HAD to hit the road for a while. I headed out through the backroads to Hackettstown NJ and stopped for lunch. Afterwards, I headed further west on some narrow roads that I'd never ridden before, eventually ending up in Glen Gardner at the home of a friend who wasn't home. Rats. So, I headed southeast to another friend's place in Califon, and he WAS home. Had a nice visit with him and then headed northeast again towards home.
I ended up with 85 miles on the bike, which may not sound like much, but I was riding my Honda Trail 90. That's a 90cc engine, 7 blistering horsepower, and an average cruising speed of about 35 to 40 mph. And I used less than $3 worth of gas for the entire day.
Can't beat it with a stick!

Today?

Well, we are quickly running out of good riding weather so I'm getting out there while I still can.
This afternoon I followed a bunch of scenic backroads the long way around ending up at the Chatterbox restaurant for Bike Night. Looks like the season has ended for most people. Not many bikes there at all. During the summer, there can be HUNDREDS of bikes up there. Tonight, maybe two dozen or so.
But it was still fun!

What a guy! He tells us it's his favorite roadside stand, but he doesn't tell us where it is or how to find it!
Well? C'mon! Give!

I rode for the first time since my carpal tunnel surgery, I was patient, it's been a whole week :)

My wife and I took a lunch break from a day of cookie baking and rode 20 miles to her favorite roadside stand, Petie's Eaties, for some awesome bacon wrapped chili cheese dogs. Usually an outdoor stand isn't the greatest lunch option Christmas week but it was 41 degrees and bright sunshine, a perfect day for a ride. She was trying out her new Arai helmet, she bought herself an eArly present, it's a great helmet but wow was it $$$! Good thing I have a head like a rock and can get by with a cheap helmet :)

My hand feels good, it's still sore and weak and needs more healing time but for the first time I could actually feel the throttle grip while riding, no tingling or numbness after 1/2 mile like before. This is going to work out well.

Thanks Mike.
I'm very familiar with Hot Dog Johnny's.
Trouble is, I don't like hot dogs. (mystery meat) LOL!!
But Peyey's Eateys' sign says they have burgers and fries and cheesesteaks and ice cream!
NOW you're talkin'!
I'll have to put that on the list of places for me and my riding group to look for!
Meanwhile, I'll look it up on a map!

Edit: Just looked it up on GoogleMaps. Looks like a nice scenic ride from where I am. Petey's Eateys is now on my "To Do" list.:thumbsup:

Hey Mike721, do they have a place to sit inside and eat? Or is only outdoor window service. I looked at the satellite view and from the air it looks like a gas station with no place to sit, no benches or tables.

They have plenty of seating, tables and benches on a roofed over open sided patio, plus a few extra tables and a brick wall for overflow seating without a roof.
Excellent Mike. Thanks! I just wanted to make sure that there will be room for our group if we go there. I'll probably show up with seven or eight friends in tow!

Thanks Mike! The satellite image shows
the back of the building. None of that is really visible. I appreciate the help. Petey's in on my list for a spring ride!

What did I do with my bike today?
Nuthin'.
It's freezing rain outside right now, with the possibility of some snow by morning. If they come around and slather the roads with salt, (and I expect that they will!) I'm done 'til spring.
My bikes do not go out once there is salt on the roads. (sigh)

What did I do with my bike today??
Not a darned thing!
Unusually warm here today, 60 degrees.
Very strange for Jersey in January.
But....
It rained like hell all day! Almost two
inches of rain fell!
Thank God it wasn't snow!!!

However....I did have my bike out for a
bit both friday and saturday!
Oh well, a little is better than nothing.

I rode into work today, I took the Vstar since it's still filthy and salty from last week and the roads around here are still salted in places. I figured since I have to wash it already a bit more dirt wont hurt. :)
I did underestimate the temperature, the forecast was 48-50 but I never checked in the AM, and it was pretty darn cold, I really could have used my electric gloves. Turned out that it was 38 this morning..brrrr..but I survived :)
I had to go see my buddy who's buying a place in Penn Argyl this morning.
Yep, it was a bit cold going out alright, but I was dressed for it.
Coming home this afternoon, something strange happened. It took me almost
two hours and 80 miles to get home! I could've sworn that it was only about
45 miles and one hour going out this morning! Maybe the warm afternoon
sun had something to do with it. Or maybe it was the way the bike handled
the curves with the new Michelin tires. All I know is, I ended up taking every
back road that I knew (and some that I didn't) on the ride home.
Along the way I detoured south and scouted out your favorite
place, Petey's Eateys, for a future Saturday morning ride with my buddies.

I don't know where you are seeing all this salt, Mike. I put on over 130 miles
today and I didn't see anything more than a bit of left over sand or gravel
in a few corners.
That was the best ride I've had since last fall!!
Yeeeha! It's spring!!

Wow, if you were in Pen Argyl you probably rode right past my house, I live on 512. It was a great day to ride, this evening was especially nice.

Our paths could have crossed today, time was limited but my wife and I took a short ride tonight around what we call "the loop", Start in Bangor at home, down hill on 512 to 191, then 191 to Belfast (stopping in the Elementary school parking lot for 20 minutes so I could practice slow U turns riding the Vision) , then up Sullivan Trail (past Petey's) to Wind Gap, then 512 to Pen Argyl and then back downhill to Bangor.
Yes, I certainly DID pass your house! I took 512 into Pen Argyl right through Bangor. Going back, I picked up 191 in Bangor and followed that to Belfast road where I made a right and rode up to Petey's.
After that, I took the back roads to Martin's Creek and the Belvidere Bridge where I crossed back to Jersey. We'll have to see if we can meet up some day, Mike.

Well, after having the rain cancel my trip this morning, the sun came out after lunch.
So, I got the Goldwing out and hit the road for a ride to nowhere in particular.
After a stop to see a friend, I wandered off to the northwest to begin a big 60 mile loop around some of New Jersey's prettiest country roads in Sussex County.
It wasn't much, but at least I got my fix for the day.

When I headed out to work this morning, it was a cold and gray day.
By the time I was headed home this afternoon, boy had things changed!!
The temperature was up to 65 and we had big puffy clouds in a clear blue sky!
What an afternoon for a ride!!
So about 4:30 pm, I headed out on a "ride to nowhere". I had no destination in mind and wasn't even sure of where I was headed.
I have always liked the out-of-the-way back roads that meander through the countryside. And I know a lot of them in my neck of the woods. But today I managed to find some that even I had never ridden before. Beautiful country roads that wandered past farms and estates, and best of all, had LOTS of twists and turns and ups and downs!
I ended up putting on 78 miles and arrived back home just before 7 pm.
It was a MOST EXCELLENT ride!
....and tomorrow it's going to rain again. (sigh)

Funny postscript:
When I headed out, I stopped by a friend's house to see if he wanted to join me. But he and his bike were gone. Oh well.....
When I got home, my wife said that HE had stopped by MY house to see if I wanted to join HIM! LOL!!!
....missed opportunities....

My first bike was a Honda 90 when I was 17. We had no driveway at all.
I learned by taking it out on the city streets near my house and practicing.
Each day I went a little further from home until I got the hang of it.
Wasn't long before my mother didn't see me for dust!

Going to go have lunch with 5 generations of family again today, my Grand-mother, Mom, me, my Daughter and my Grand-daughter....first time since my daughters wedding we have all been together....
Wow! Great picture! I hope you know how rare that is.
Not many families are able to get five generations together.
My grandparents died before I was born. And I have no children.
Very cool picture!
