I used to know a lot about motocross (I'm assuming that's what racing you'll be doing)... The YZ's & CR's were from back in my day along with Huskies, Can Ams, Maico's etc. You need to talk to a winner. Go to a race then chat with the winner (NOT factory sponsored riders). It's obvious what bike they're using but you might want to ask what bike they WISH they had...along with finding out what spare parts you need to buy in advance... stuff like levers, cables...find out what breaks most often. Find out which dealers in your area give discounts to racers. How serious will this be? Will you train? Since you don't have a drivers license you'll need a place close to home where you can practice jumps and tight turns etc. You might want to go with a 100cc rather than a 125 because the 125 riders are going to be more experienced and older than you are. It'll be tough enough for a newbie to break into the 100cc class...good luck
First off don't listen to what the magazines say unless they say its total **** and I don't see that happening. The guys who do test riding for the magazines are pro riders and probably that .01% of the riding population that can ride a bike to it's full potential. To them the CR might have been slower because they can ride it to it's full potential but to one of us it might be a different story. Besides you read one test it will say the YZ is faster and better suspended then read another test it might say the RM is faster but the Honda is better suspended. It depends on the rider.

I would go with the 125. When you hit 16 you're going to be in the 125cc class anyhow. You can kind of take some of the height out of the rear by taking some of the preload off the rear shock spring. It's kind of a funky way of doing it and you aren't supposed to do it that way but it's either that or pull the rear shock off and either find a shorter spring or just deal with the extra height between a 125 and a 85cc motocross bike. There isn't a whole lot of difference.

maico i only live about 3 miles away from mx track so i got that part covered but i think i might just get a cr125
The CR125 was a big winner back in 1976 or so. But then, so was the Maico 450 radial. Good luck..never hit your brakes right before going off the jump. Get in front and you won't get dirty googles.
I'm 15 and I have a honda crf230f and they're a lot of fun, but I guess you want something smaller?
get one of the new honda crf150. theyre fast for there size and from what i hear theyre real light.

Finding the Perfect Bike

I don't know what would be the best bike for you but if you go to PowerSportsGateway.com you will at least know all the motorcycle places in your area to go to.:D
Im 15 years old also and i just got a drz 125l and its perfect size for me
get the 125 and lower the forks and adjust the rear shock to fit you. You can get a lowering link to help if you need it. DRZ125s are fine for the trail but a YZ125 is a real dirtbike.
I ride a honda XL 250 from 83's and really enjoy muddy roads. You should try !!!
im 15 and i got a RM 125. Its not as fast as a yz but its lasted forever
