The bike is 15 years old. The shift mechanism cover gasket was broken during assembly 15 years ago at the factory.
Kidding, not expecting warranty. I'm just amazed that it took 15 years to start leaking.
On the crankcase side (at bottom of mechanism pic) I could see where only about 1/16" of gasket was making a seal.
I made sure to install the new gasket correctly....
