hi all,
1998 honda vt750c2.
i intermittantly loose power in 1st ,2nd gear whilst throttling to max, seems like lack of gas..it sort of dies and i have to quickly change to 3rd,,,or reduce throttle,,,have checked inline filter and gas easily pours out,so is there another filter either in the petrol pump itself or the carby and if so can i access the carby filter without taking it off,,,i will try hot wiring the pump to see how much petrol gets pumped out,,and is the pump always on, restricted only by the floats in the carby or is there some sensor telling it to come on when carby needs it. thx for any replies...

I would check the float level to make sure there is plenty of fuel in the carb bowl when needed.
so i need to take the carby off? which means i have to resynchronise them? and i there a filter in the carby?
Most floats are easier to deal with with the carb removed. There are usually not filters in carbs.
If I were you, I would watch all the videos you can about cleaning carbs. It is very easy to make a bad mistake like breaking off a float post. Fortunately for me, I had a bike specific manual for my bike and survived my first and later attempts. I also have a bike mechanic up the road who can work on them. I got him to do a honda magna after knowing that it was above my pay grade. he stated that he would NEVER do another one. [Magna].

If you do your own work, be aware that carb cleaner and the rubber bits inside a carb are not compatible. I wish i had a better understanding of the Shadow carbs, but I work on the older stuff up from 1970 to 1983. Maybe someone will happen along with better info about the Shadow.

Good luck. here is some detailed general advice on carb repair.http://www.dansmc.com/carbs.htm
