I have read hundreds of forum posts, checked my manuals, downloaded PDF's and cannot find the answer to my question.
I have a 1979 Suzuki GS750EN which has been in storage for an extended period of time (more than 5 years). Since I couldn't get the lower bowl drain screws out, it sat with gas in the carbs. I've torn the carbs apart and used the Pine Sol method of cleaning.
Now that the gunk is out, I noticed something odd. In the float bowl, there are two holes which do not hold jets. Spraying in one vents the fluid out of a side port. The other does nothing. I jiggled a small screwdriver in the hole and got more gunk out of one of them, but still no drainage. Then I noticed that it was this way on three of the carbs (only one had gunk in it), but the fourth (numerical not position) has a brass plug or something in the port that is clearly visible.
So, what do these holes do, should they drain and is the brass "plug" an indication that there is a problem? Would really like to get these carbs back on before I forget how I took them off. LOL!
By the way, even after soaking in hot pine sol for 2 days, I was only able to get one lower bowl drain screw out. Tapped with hammer. Nothing. Rusty colored gunk comes out when spraying with WD40. Can I safely apply heat to the bowl to loosen? Seems awfully light weight.
Will be using electrolysis on tank to get small amount of rust out, so hoping for a reply so I can complete this job this weekend.
Thanks in advance!
