I have tried to visualize the number, but it is not happening. It is possibly a thrashed inline 4 600, that a previous owner has butchered. That is as close as I can get. Does my Google search work differently than other folks. I type in a number or a question, or a word, and like magic I get a reply. I think Google knows more than many ex wives, ex BILs and FILs.

Yes. Everyone will be a little different depending on your search history. I actually feel sorry for those that do a lot of porn searching. Who knows what kind of results they get with some of your suggestions using tar and wyre. Must be entertaining to say the least.

There are a couple of online VIN tools that give basic information, then ask for $$ to give you all the details. Like UK suggests, google "VIN lookup".

I think that whole business of hiding your license plate in the Craigslist or other ad photo is kinda silly. I know of no way to "run a plate", unless one is a law enforcement officer. Sometimes the same folks who hide their plate will list the VIN in the ad. I prefer ads with the VIN, because I'm looking for a very specific engine, which is encoded in the VIN, and a very specific transmission and transaxle, which is not, but is on the door plate on US cars & trucks. Bikes don't generally have different engine/drivetrain options that I'm aware of, the manufacturer gives them a whole different model number.

Triumph parts asks me to give the serial number. Right away they know it is a US model.
Years ago the local birders group had a campaign to reintroduce Western Bluebirds, by locating bird boxes in the rural farm areas. They needed the dimensions for the boxes. Try typing blue bird boxes, for a search.
Okay, I just did, and I got the dimensions for blue bird boxes. Who knew. Some of the birders reported other results.

A slash is a tinkle in polite words. Hence the slash house, but you can do that outside, unless you live too close to town, or do not own enough property. Unless you were going for a major event, in which case you would be looking for the bog shop.
Someone would think, that by all this wit, Shakespeare himself had been here to sit.

slash

verb
Cut (something) with a violent sweeping movement, typically using a knife or sword.
"a tire was slashed on my car"

noun
A cut made with a wide, sweeping stroke.
"the man took a mighty slash at his head with a large sword"

^ Like I said,!
I believe a light saber, not a knife or sword, would be the correct slashing device for a V.I.N.

The problem with search engines: They often give the latest silly example of how a word is used.
IMO, it would be better if they quoted the long term meaning of a word. There are words used in Ozz and NZ, that do not make the dictionary, as if the world revolves around US usage, and sometimes England. There were many words shared and transferred by soldiers during the wars. Quite a few from India. Gee gee, horse. Decko, to have a look.
There are times my significant help is wasted. Oh darn.
There I sat, broken hearted, went to poop but only farted. And spell check on this site does not like hearted.

When we were dumped onto this new format, did anyone notice the search tool seemed to be much better than the old one? Well I did or at least I thought I did. But I've noticed the very search words I first used no longer give me the same results. That leaves me broken hearted. I had to use hearted just see if I got the same complaint as you UK but I didn't. It liked it just fine. So yet another difference most likely due to browser and/or system software, Windows versus Mac in this case. But why the search tool seems to be going back like the old one is beyond my comprehension. Got to be a reason. Maybe the dreaded cookie monster I suppose then.

Am I right, or am I wrong, the OP has gone. None of us was much help. Oh darn.
If only he had asked an easy one, like how can we tell how fast waves are travelling, when we only know the distance between them.

He probably gave up after a minute or two, googled "VIN lookup", and decided he didn't need no stinkin' forum.

I hear they got this thing called Twit Her! One of you guys should maybe look into that. We are still trying to forum in a Facebook world.
