My '85 Honda vf700 feels like it's slipping gears in 2nd. Jerks every couple seconds when in 2nd. Transmission junk?

If it is only 2nd, then it could be bent shift forks, and the locking part of the gear faces worn because of the forks. Overly hard shifting can bend the forks. How hard it is to fix depends entirely on the design.

If it's of any significants, it still jerks even under half throttle acceleration
