Is there any caution or maintanece that should be done on a twin engine that has been garaged for 20 years without a carb attached or cover around the intake manifolds?

The bike is a 1974 honda cb360 with about 4200miles (not a typo). I am fearing the worse and trying to get it running again, but curious before putting the rebuilt carb back on without checking this.

Any advise would be good!

If it were me I'd be tearing it apart to see just how bad the rust might be on the internals. Even an engine stored that long properly would be questionable. No cover over the intake for 20 years?? What do you think?
