My 1973 Suzuki TS185 is leaking transmission oil from the front drive sprocket area and i was wondering if there is some kind of seal that goes behind it that could be bad or if the TS185's have some kind of auto-chain-luber which would explain it. its not a big deal because it only drips when it is running and it drips very little but i would like to address the problem as my dad doesnt like black oil stains in his garage.
i had that problem on my 73 t500 and if the front sprocket and shaft is anything like the one on my t500 then there is a plate that you can see when you take off the sprocket. take that plate off and there should be an O-ring that goes behind that plate to seal it. If your O-ring is torn or in bad shape it will cause the leak. What i did was just put some RTV on the plate on tightened it down good and that stopped my leak. Or you could do it right and buy the replacement o ring.
good luck
Wow, looking through these threads (I'm a new member) I see references to a lot of old bikes.
My Mom had a -73 or -74 TS185! She got it new off the showroom floor; God, I was just a kid then. My stepdad rode an OSSA 250 that was heavy as hell and looked like it.
I had a Honda XR75.
Yeah, Mom loved that bike and she put a power head on it, took on the turn signals and did some other mods. Changed out the final drive ration for hill climbing. Her TS was a silver color.
The TS series bike has an outer oil seal, a metal collar that goes under the sprocket, and on the inside of that, and oring. If you buy the oring and oil seal, it will probably set you back 15$, but you will fix the leak
