We drilled the pointy edge area, not thru the middle. And smaller than 1/16. Lock wyre is 1/32 or less from memory. Jim Dunn from WA had a cool tool that twisted the wyre. Common now but rare then. He taped 6 inch pieces of wool to the fairing. Took photos of it at speed. Old style wind tunnel.

1/8": Nope. Would have to go thru the middle.

Smaller that 1/16" ? :surprise:
I broke 1/16" drills from time too time. Some bolts had to be replaced because replacement was faster than trying to remove the broke drill.
With practice we broke less.
At the time I never saw a "jig" made for drilling bolts and nuts... I wonder if the jig would've worked better?
