I see some brake work in my future.
Bought new pads for the 79 XS1100. This time I will keep the packages with the part numbers. Some places like MikesXS did not differentiate the Special from the Standard. The front pads are unique to the Special. I contacted EBC and got the correct part numbers. It is a fiddle installing the pads, so I will undo the brake hoses and let them drain out. I can check the sealing washers as well. Then there will be fresh fluid in the lines. It takes a long time to bleed both calipers.
On the XS400, the lever feels hard, and the braking is not very good. The pads disengage, which is a good sign. I will bleed it and maybe squeeze out the piston for an inspection.
When was the last time we all changed the brake fluid? Too long for most of us I suspect. As a side note. I find that the correct lube on the pistons works best.
Sorry for the five syllable word above. Wheelbarrow is usually my biggest.
