We go on the road searching for good. Hopefully we find it and arrrive at our destinations better, happier persons, people re-convinced of the existence of good. Renewed. Refreshed... All of the R-words. Finding good requires, it seems, losing our way, breaking down, or running short. Otherwise how would we meet the good people along the way whose purpose in life seems to be helping others. Sometimes they find us. They pull up alongside and ask "Where are you headed," or "Do you need any help. Other times our route seems to lead directly to their door. It may be their workplace, their home, or somewhere they pulled over and stopped for even a minute. More often than not this chance encounter seems like a miracle. How could good, the Universe, God, whatever you want to call it, have known what we would need, and provided this person, his or her specific knowledge, this unique skill they possess. Or just a person with a heart of gold, generosity and human kindness to assist us. How could good have known we would be here not an hour earlier, or an hour later, but right here and now. Good people, good tunes, good roads, good times, the essence of the road trip is good. If you, like so many of us have developed that creeping doubt about the existence of good in this world anymore, if you are running on empty, good God, man, get on the road!
