Are you using the start button or the kick start? This was like my first bike and I ask that question because I found the bike so under powered electrically that the start button would never get the bike run when cold. I always had to use the kicker.

That may be not your problem if you are just trying to see spark at the plug and not actually trying to start it. But that bike is very weak electrically as far as I'm concerned. I even threatened to convert mine to 12v instead of 6v. Which brings up another question, is it still 6v or could you have possibly put any 12v electrical parts in a 6v system. That would most certainly cause problems if you have inadvertently done that.

Stock, mine was 6v. Confirm what you have so the electric gurus can help.

I don’t think this bike has a kill switch on it.
The kill switch is the red button on top of the right handle bar. View attachment 60185
As Rizingson has stated, it does or is supposed to have a kill switch. If it is still there then move it to another position. If it isn't there then someone has done some major wiring changes so you'll be forced to trace every single wire in the ignition system so search out a wiring diagram as you'll need it to diagnose further. I bet it's there but just overlooked.
