It is definitely safer with another rider along---just in case.
Someone has to LEAD the group and that has always seemed to be me; from 2 up to a couple hundred or more as a 'Ride Captain,' for some non-outlaw clubs.
Leading the group has some big responsibilities, namely to try and PLEASE everybody as far a fuel stops, food stops, motel or camping choices, rest stops and photo opportunities, etc etc.
Your VTX1300C is a great bike and I bought 2 new ones in 2007. I actually liked the 13 better than my past VTX1800R in many ways.
