I've been very happy with Airhawk cushions. The trick with them is to put just a bare minimum of air in them. Properly inflated, they look like they won't do a thing for you -- but that attitude changes as soon as you sit on one...
Seat cushion suggestions
Hello all I'm looking for seat cushion suggestions for the wife and I we wanna start taking longer trips and can't afford Mustang seats but thought we could get away with using seat cushions for a longer ride as we are planning sometime in the near future a trip to San Diego from the Tucson Az area. I looked around a little bit and found Airhawk cushions which seem to be decent and reasonably priced but I don't know as this is the first experience I have had with this sort of thing! I appreciated any feedback to this end.

I've heard good things about the Airhawk though I have not tried one, my seat is good the way it is.
My wife uses a sheepskin on her seat for long rides, she likes the softness and found it warm in winter and yet allows cooling airflow in the summer, surprisingly comfortable all year round. She got hers here, it's local to us so we shopped in person but they ship all over too I believe.

I've had Airhawk II seat covers and agree that for optimum benefit the cushion needs to be inflated as little as possible but still keeping your butt slightly above the stock seat. But I found that they did not seem to do much for me to enjoy longer rides. On my last two bikes, including my current 2016 Goldwing, I have Beadrider seat covers. If you look at these you might well think "how could that be comfortable, sitting on a mat of hard beads?" but they really work. They not only have helped me avoid a sore butt even on all day rides, but they keep me cooler since air can travel between where your butt rests and the seat itself. I never take them off my bike. Even when washing the bike, I can lift up the Beadrider slightly and slide a chamois underneath to dry it, and the same for when I have been caught in the rain. An added benefit of Beadrider is that they are much less expensive than the Airhawk products. Which ever way you decide to go, order them for an online source that allows returns. You could try the Airhawk, return it for a Beadrider and then decide which one you prefer.
I had Beadrider ceramic beads on the Triumph Trophy for really long hauls and they worked great, they allow air flow under the butt and made the long distance rides more comfortable. They're very durable, and they stay in place. The only thing I didn't like about them is that they raised me up an additional 1/2" to 3/4" on an already tall bike. I currently use an Airhawk II on the Guzzi and as others have stated, the key to the Airhawk is just enough air to keep your butt off the seat. Too much air and your butt feels like its rolling around on a bunch of marbles. It works fine on the Guzzi (rounder more elongated seat), but not so well on the Kawasaki adventure bike due to the deep (cup) shape of the seat, it causes the Airhawk to bunch up a little in the center. If I add more air, the bunch up goes away, but then your back to that rolling around on marbles feeling. I also have a gel pad that I use on the Kawasaki, it extends the ride time, but not as well as the Airhawk does on the Guzzi.
I bought the wild ass cushioned air bladder last August for a ride from philly to Des Moines Iowa. 1100 miles out. Rode straight through 23 hours on way home and my ass n back were fine! I can attest that they work very well in our hot Texas summers. Prior to my using the thing I could have given a commercial for how to get swamp butt. I suppose I still could for how to get rid of swamp butt.
The bottom seat cushion cover on my 03 Convertible is done. I'm thinking of throwing on a set of the neoprene covers from the State of Nine, but it seems odd to me that there is a $35 upcharge for the specific year of 2003. Is the convertible seat really different between 2002 and 2003?
Any other good fitting seat covers out there? I don't want a universal fit $35 deal.
