Round Trip?

Hey Steve,
Is your trip a one way or round trip? If it is a rounder, pick a different route to come back and that way you can see more of the U.S. It will be a hot one getting out of Cali if you go on 10,15 or 40. You may want to go north to 80 and then across. The farther you go east, the worse the traffic will be for you so be prepared to shorten your mileage each day as you get towards the east coast. Rain Gear is a must as well as cold weather gear if you get above the I70 corridor. Just because it is summer in the mountains and plains, doesn't mean it won't get chilly. Good luck on you trip and have a great time.

Wow - that's going to be quite a trek! I'd suggest a cell phone; $100 in Traveller's Checks that you keep someplace besides your wallet; an "in case of emergency contact" card; a small tire repair kit; a small camera of some type.

Have a safe and exciting trip!
Route 66

Don't forget Route 66 and make sure to leave time to do nothing. It's the road and the people along the way that make a trip memorable. See the sunsets and smell the air. Eat in diners.

Two of us made a similar trip last year, we found that over all the best westerns we good places to stay, I might want to obtain one of their directives, as afternoon approches ya can call ahead. Have fun.
when i make roadtrips (in a car for now), i usually book my hotel tickets on the internet. It helps me with time managment and pulling out those extra 20 minutes of drive instead of lagging. But it this maybe dangerous with motorcycles since it requires you to be more alert and balanced.
sorry, says i gotta post 15 replies before i can post an URL, so i took a short cut.
Yeah, don't do that again.

If it were me I'd take a female along for sure. When I got lost and it would happen, I'd need someone to go ask where we were. I also carry a compass on trips so that I have some idea of in what direction I was lost in. This mostly happens in late afternoon when the Capt Morgan is starting to kick in.
A road tip for you, is that I carry the Capt in a red plastic gas can to fool the cops. Then I get a coffee cup from like dunken donuts to keep it cold and in arms reach. Next incase you do get stopped I always let some gas get on my gloves when gasing up, to hide anyother smell. Note of safety here, Do not do this if you are a smoker. I did find that it is an excelent way to stop smoking though, once you recover.
Women talk too much when you stop. Go buy a GPS and ride in peace! :D ( I KNOW this will get responses!)

If you take the I-70 route, when you get through Denver, it will be the most boring ride you've ever taken through Kansas. It's flat, and there's nothing to see, other than a few rolling hills and grass. I might suggest that you go north at Denver and go through the Black Hills and South Dakota on I-90. It's a little better than Kansas.

Someone mentioned traffic. If you don't mind paying tickets, you can ride at 80 mph out on the open highway until you get into Pa, and you can do it there, too, if you wish. The traffic isn't that bad until you get up into the heavily populated areas. Then, you better drive like crazy, or some nut will run right over you! Everyone's in a hurry in the city!
