I'm a little confused. My bike is a 6 volt system with a six volt battery. I have been looking for 6 volt LED bulbs to replace my current filament bulbs because of the reduced power draw of LED bulbs. The problem is that it is virtually impossible to find 6 volt LED bulbs in the 1156/1157 style.
I have run across other postings indicating that the 6 volt designation for a 1156 bulb is actually 1129. Thus the only difference between a 1129 and 1156 is the voltage rating of the bulbs. Is this correct?
Further to that, I have seen countless 1156 12v LED's that claim to be able to replace 1156 OR 1129 bulbs. Does this make sense to anyone or is it just more snake oil from the sales departments? What are the effects of putting a 12 volt LED bulb in a socket intended for a 6v bulb? Will it drain my 6 volt battery?
Or will it just burn half as bright with no negative consequences? Thanks!
