Problem with clutch cable 1980 Husqvarna CR250 just purchased

Just purchased a good running and riding 1980 CR250, clutch action is good but I noticed the guy before me had doubled up on the adjuster at the perch end. I figured it was to take up slack on a possible stretched cable. The clutch works fine but I didnt like the looks of this so I purchased a new cable just to find out it is the same length. So, it is like the sheath is too short or the cable too long, about the length of the adjuster. Next pulled off the clutch cover to see how much internal adjustment I have to play with, the adjuster doesnt seem to have this much adjustment in it. I'm stumped, about ready to shorten the cable somehow so only one adjuster is needed at the perch. Anybody else ever run into this issue?
