Hey there everybody, I'm a new rider and have a brand new 2020 Royal Enfield Himalayan sitting in the driveway that is the equivalent to a 500lb paperweight without a permit. For more than a month now I've been on the horn constantly and digging through the DMV website for updates and can only find non-answers and conflicting messages. I got turned away by a woman doing pre-screening at the local office last week, she ousted me from the line immediately and refused to answer any questions. The automated phone system told me to call back after the 29th but as of this morning their message suddenly changed to June 15th. I can basically only practice in the secluded alley behind my block and even then I'm afraid of getting harassed by the cops.

Anybody having similar problems or is there some super-secret process for getting this done right now? Doesn't seem fair that casinos and hair salons are opening here in San Diego but the DMV is somehow less of a priority

My area here, in Carthage, Missouri (64836) has extended all rules relating to timelines on existing or new registrations and title transfers due to the 'lockdown,' situation but now, I see Folk's standing in short lines at the 'Dept of revenue,' (DMV) so things are probably back to normal.

I was in the same situation as you as my new 2 week old Honda African Twin Adventure Sport's existing plate off of my trade in, expired in April. My Wife called and was told to just show a copy of the sales paperwork and temp registration and no LEO would be concerned due to the extenuating circumstances.

Last place I lived was in Southern Ca, in Hemet, your neighbor to the east. We moved to SW Missouri in 2000 to get away from the 'Rat race,' and 'life in the fast lane.' I was born there and have lots of Kid's and Grandkid's and other relative and Friend's still there. I miss the Dualsport and street riding there and especially miss the Ocean.:)

Update:

We are now into June, the DMV (at least in CA) is taking their sweet time and still isn't offering permit tests for C or M class endorsements. I am beyond frustrated and can't seem to get the slightest bit of insight from their online reps. I have taken short practice jaunts around the neighborhood but I REALLY don't want to ride dirty, especially right now I don't need an interaction with the cops. This absolutely is not fair for both me and the hundreds of thousands of teens waiting to get behind the wheel and start the transition into independent adult life.

Is anybody here having similar difficulties? Are there any contacts or representatives in California that I can bug about this issue? Its been months and people need to get their f-ing lives going again, the DMV has had plenty of time to process existing appointments and expand online services (which they should have done YEARS ago). People are socially distanced anyway when they take a written test, they should just set up supervised and divided areas outside the office for people to take tests.
