How do motorcyclists plan to deal with the fact that cities all over the country are installing noise and speed sensors on traffic lights where motorcycles speed and have modified their exhaust to make a huge amount of noise? The sensors can measure the speed and sound, take a pic of the offender's plate and mail him a ticket.

In my city, motorcycles disturb the sleep of over 100,000 people from 10pm to 4am 7 days a week 365 days of the year. They know that cops have a do not pursue policy for speed and loud bikes and so they fly 80mph in 35mph zones and are louder than a F-16. The new cop technology is about the stop them real soon.

It's be real interesting to see how selfish bikers try to get around the new technology to force them to behave like adults rather than 2 year olds - look at me. I got me a real fast and loud motorcycle for Xmas.

That's quite the introduction and welcome!

In my local small town we don't have this issue. On occasion there's a loud Harley, but not enough to get worked up about.

I live on the outskirts of a major summer tourist area. The road I live on is a nice route into it. We have constant loud bike traffic from May to September, I’ve grown to like it actually! Not a lot of noise in late night times though, all the deer probably helps that.

How will I deal with it?
Easy. Move out of the city. Move to an Island with very little traffic.

However. I had to put my watch in a cabinet drawer, it was ticking too loud at night.
The RR owners manual suggests you roll up the windows, if you here any loud or strange noises.

The thermometer / radar cameras will be challenged for accuracy in court. If they were made in China, case dismissed.

I lived in Denver CO, Saint Louis MO, and Louisville KY and the sound sensors will fail. Steve Lehto talked about this the other day. I just wonder how long they will try. If you are having issues with being disturbed might consider moving because the way you describe it it sounds very extreme where you are.

edit: In Gainesville Florida? a total population of 140,000 and you are claiming that 100,000 are disturbed? You might be, but you need to talk to your local police or consider moving it sounds like to me.

Funny, I moved to the country for the peace and quiet and someone rides one of those bikes down the highway a quarter of a mile away and you can't hear anything when he goes by. I think it comes down to common curtesy to not have a vehicle that loud or not play loud music or make any racket late at night.

Interesting that Harleys in Europe are whisper quiet...
And as such, motorcycles in Europe have full-power

In U.S. they have noise-baffles in intake and RPM & power-restrictions in ECU. Results are that U.S. bikes have 20-25% less power than their R.o.W countreparts. A CBR1000RR in U.S. has 45bhp less!! Here's sample of '08 unrestricted CBR600RR vs restricted '09 version

New ZX4RR in U.S. trim will have 10500rpm redline instead of 16K and only make 56bjp instead of 79.

I'd say that it's case of few bad apples spoiling it all for rest of us.

It's real easy, just pull your plate off. Now go take a nap.
