Hi I'm Richard.
I'm a Senior in high school and was thinking about getting a bike for graduation. Is their any suggested bike for beginners?
I'm not trying to kill myself here with an overpowered bike.

i had just bought a 2002 CBR600 F4i for my first bike about 8 months ago and ive been happy ever since. i rode my dads harley for a lil while but had the need for speed. but it has plenty of punch and they are good reliable bikes.

i second that.. sv650.. awesome starter... and leaves plenty of room to grow....

I tried a sv once... it's very nice but a bit too fast for a starter...
if you are an active guy and have good body coordenation ( sorry... did I spell this right?), go ahead, if you're not so sure... think something smaller, you'll have more fun and live longer!

Could it have been a SV 1000? I only ask because the 650 seamed fairly tame to me say compared to a 4cyl. 650?

I have to agree with BillTheCat...the 650 is a great bike.. if it was your first time on a bike in general, the 650 will absolutely seem fast... no question about it... its faster than most cars out there... but as far as bikes are concerned, its a pretty tame and predictable bike.....

yes a 650... it goes crazy fast if you open the throttle full on...
but ok, it's a friendly bike, and should be a good way to start if you have some experience, or some talent...
the 4 cylinders are also sweet and slow if you don't fully open the throttle... but it's hard not to.... it's kind of an addictive thing... and dangerous...
I believe that buying a big bike is skipping a few steps on the learnig curve... some people get over it and become good riders, others don't...
My advice is: get a small bike, you can always change it after a year or 2

Exactly! Some folks say "Oh, I won't do it" but do. It's hard not to.

I would suggest you get the biggest bike you can .......... Just joking, go with a 250 or there abouts they still got enough power and pretty nimble as well. Hopped on my friends just the other day just for fun and it was just that.
