Love that classic look. I made a couple of trips to India earlier this year and was amazed at how many Royal Enfields are on the streets. A lot of them are 125 cc but they have that style that is unmistakable.Hi, I'm John and I live in Chicago Il.
I ride a 2012 Royal Enfield Classic 500 Desert Storm, and I like to work on motorcycles as well as ride.
I'd like to share my adventures in wrenching and ask for advice here in the Forums.

Welcome! I hope you'll give us your impressions of the Royal Enfield Classic. I love the look, and have thought that if I were to add another ride to my stable the RE would be a good candidate.
Welcome from Virginia. The Royal Enfield was a popular bike bike when I was growing up. Lately I have been quite interested in The Royal Enfield Himalayan Adventure bike. Yes, I've seen one of Itchy Boot's Utube videos. What a charming personality and can-do attitude, not to mention fearlessness.
I have no personal experience with the Himalayan, but there are many reports online. The bike had some initial mechanical issues, which are reported to have been sorted out. The machine is lower powered than the 500s, and will top out at a slower max speed, but is reported to have good handling and reasonable offroad capability. They are also quite inexpensive. What's the story with the double front mudguard?
The Classic 500 and the other Bullet singles are also not slouches in being able to handle mixed surfaces. The Bullet seems to be the mount most often chosen for rental service, and they will take those things everywhere, and can carry a heap of gear and spare gas cans on their Ladakh carrier racks.

I'll be happy to talk about my Royal Enfield Classic 500 Desert Storm. I actually composed a nice report last night, but the forum unfortunately decided to log me out while I was choosing my words, and I lost it.
I promise that once my probation is over, and I can tag on a few pictures, I'll post much more information about Royal Enfield and about my bikes in particular. I'm working on becoming something of a local expert on the machines. Unfortunately for me, most of the instructive videos available on the machines are in the Hindi language. Still one can recognize the parts, a pointing finger is a pointing finger in all languages, and one word in twenty is identifiable, "carburetor", so they are helpful.

I don't think that Royal Enfield has made a 125 since the Flying Flea in WW2, and that was military production only as far as I know. But they did make the Fury 163cc and various other sub-250 cc models up until 1995. As far as I know since then it's been 350cc and up, but I'm only going by what I can read, I haven't been to India.
The smaller bikes are well suited to their domestic market from what I've read and seen in online video. I've seen more than one U-Tube video from India where the host talks about the 500s as being a big bike with arm socket yanking torque and awe inspiring sound and power. Feel the Thump!

'arm socket yanking torque' killed me. I didn't spend any time examining the Enfields I saw over there but it is a maker I have always appreciated.
