My wife and I have set a target date to move from California to Tennessee. I am looking for any moving advice, however I am specifically asking advice on moving my 650. If it makes any difference, I also want to move my Toyota hilux pickup probably at the same time and same carrier.

Why not rent a trailer & drive the pickup to Tennessee ?
For the MC, use a carrier that has an enclosed body not an open trailer.
For the truck, an open trailer is the usual mode.
So, probably not the same mover for both.

Good luck and happy times in Tennessee
What part of Tennessee ?

Hi ExTex,

Gallatin.

The truck is 1991 vintage, and although it runs fine, I'm not sure of a trip that far.

And, although the bike also runs well, my butt would give out way before I got there!

How are you planning on moving the rest of your household goods? Doing that yourself or hiring a moving company?

I'd consider getting that bike loaded into the back of the pickup truck ( even if you have to buy some lumber and fabricate an extra long loading ramp and find three friends to help you push it up that ramp) and strapping it down securely in the truck bed.
Even if you have to take the pickup truck & the bike separately somewhere where you can use a loading dock w/ concrete ramp made for forklifts, or a grassy hill you can back up to so the tailgate isn't so high above the ground.

Then have your pickup truck towed behind the big giant moving truck.

Thanks everyone for the helpful tips.

Gunsmoker, the truck has a short bed, and a shell, so I couldn't transport the Honda that way. Driving the truck that distance that far is out of the question, unfortunately.
My wife wants to hire movers, not my idea. The problem is we have a small dog who doesn't like riding in cars, and she would make it difficult for one person to handle in my wife's car. (We are driving it, it's a 2021, and should have no problem making it). My other problem is my stereo, it's all separates, and worth about 10k. The speakers will be the most difficult, 6' long Magnepan planers.

I've use this method several times,
and once I used a variation of it:
I pushed my dead motorcycle up the long handicap wheelchair ramp of a church, and then had a friend back their pickup truck to the front steps of the church, and then I rolled the nonrunning motorcycle down half of the stairs until I met the tailgate of the truck and bounced / rolled into the bed.

PS: You might still have to use a piece of lumber or a short loading ramp even when you back the tailgate up to a hill, but the angles will be much more gentle than if you tried to put that loading ramp directly down to the ground.

For something like this, I'd recommend professional shipper. You can put up RFQ for bids on uShip.com. Enter all specs: year and model vehicles, total weight, destination, etc. Independent shippers will contact with quotes. Be sure to research outfits fully, checking out their most recent year's reviews. I've shipped numerous cars and bikes this way without issue.

Transport Connection out of Boca Raton, Florida ROCKS!!!! Its a one-man show run by the president of the company (Bill). The man gets things DONE!!! I bought my Bug in Ohio and needed it shipped to Missouri. After I made the mistake of filling out some online quote forms and being inundated with a million calls within five minutes, something about the message from Transport Connection caught my attention: the president of the company had called me. Well, to make a long story short, I hired him to find me a shipper; in 2018, the fee was $150. I figured this was gonna be a two-week deal or so. Nope. Bill found a truck hauling a load of, get this, HEARSES to Colorado from Ohio. The driver was only 20 minutes from the dealership and had room to squeeze in Bug! The dealership had Bug ready to ship in no time, and I had him in a week!!! As if that wasn't enough, it turns out that the owner of the shipping company has family in my neck of the woods, and was ready to have the driver meet us at a service organization's lodge only a mile from my house in the middle of nowhere! Well, I didn't feel comfortable doing something like that on the lodge's property without permission, so instead we picked the little C-store about 15 minutes from me (still in the middle of nowhere) that his aunt used to own. It was incredible!!! FYI, on a deal like this, you'll need to have cash in hand to pay the truck driver (in Bug's case, it was $600). The driver communicated with us en route, and even sent me this hilarious picture!!! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

For some reason, I can't get a website to pull up, but the location and phone number on this review is correct. Best to call anyway. Good luck!
