The number of accidents in California last year was 2750. That is lower than all of Canada even though the population of California and Canada are similar. I would suspect one of the reasons is that Californian riders are better riders since they ride all year where in Canada, seven months would be about the longest. After not riding for five or more months, it takes a few weeks or more for the proficiency and awareness level to get up to par.
