I have a 2005 Softtail Deuce that has a custom limited paint set. It's number 194 of 200. While in Sturgis some [email protected]#$ must have dropped their bike in to mine which caused a dent and chipped paint in my feul tank.

It's black with Green flames but the flames can turn orange if the light hits it just right. I've been all over the hd.com website but cannot find the part number anywhere. I assume it's because it's a limited set.

The dealer where I purchased the bike last year has since went out of business. I need to find out how, or even if, I can order a new tank.

Here is a pic. Land vehicle Vehicle Motor vehicle Fuel tank Motorcycle

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,
Robert

Paint Set

Thanks Nighthawk. I did that but they couldn't find it either. They went back to 2003 and couldn't find it in their catalog. I'm thinking that because it is a limited set it's probably not a catalog item.

Maybe go higher up on the H-D ladder? Maybe talk to someone at their corporate HQ? Other than that all I gotta say is hunt craigslist/ebay/internet for the tank.

That's an option I may have to consider. I'd rather order from HD if possible. Thanks for the input.

I'm curious, what makes HD's better than anothers paint? Its now damaged, but you can't get a replacement or a repair from HD. How good is that?

Had you come to my shop, first off you would have a true custom paint job, what you bought was a "conversion paint job" because there are 199 duplicates of your paint job out there somewhere. Its like the custom/conversion vans from the 70's and 80's. If its cheaper to do the same thing in volume, then why does HD charge more for their paint than I do? A true custom is a one-off, where you have the only one. Also at my shop, I keep accurate records of how I achieved the finish, just in case I would have to match it again. I see this quite often in my business, and matching someone else's custom colors can be more expensive than repainting all the tins again.

I'm not trying to piss you off, I just wonder why everyone thinks because it came from the factory, it must be better. It is a good looking paint job, but it was still painted by some schmuck just like me, only he works for HD, and not an independant.

I am sorry some dumba$$ had to damage your bike, but check out some real custom painters in your area. (one's who do custom work for a living) you may luck out and find one who has seen that particular color before, or one who can at least replicate it. Good luck on your search.
