Lane splitting has been proven to be safe in California, so why is CA still the only state where it is legal to do so?
It is also legal in most of Europe and Asia.

Huh? Why would it be safe in one state but not the other? If anything lane splitting should be slightly more dangerous in California where you have highest population density and worst traffic congestion. Plus people here tend to drive their cars like maniacs.

I would say that 49 states have found lane splitting to be less safe, that's why it isn't allowed.

Just because Cali does something does not mean it's right. Matter of fact, just because they do something might be a good enough reason NOT to do it. Their financial situation is proof they know little there. They steal water from everywhere and yet they refuse to conserve. Possibly the only reason splitting even works in Cali is because it requires a socialist mindset. That's something most want no part of but Cali is continuing to experiment with it.

Even if lane splitting were legal in Maryland I still wouldn't do it because of all the ignorant,angry and aggressive drivers I see, especially around the beltway circling DC. Where I live a lot of those people bring that attitude to what was a rural area when they move here supposedly to "get away" from that rat race. In other words those rats just bring the plague with them.

Plus, when I see California's highways on TV, it sure seems to me
that the traffic lanes are wider there, allowing more space between cars
for splitting. Here in Jersey we have a lot of very OLD infrastructure.
Many places, the roads and traffic lanes are very narrow. There is no
way that you could get a bike between the cars if you wanted to.

The lanes do seem wider in CA, even on the more remote roads out in the desert. I once encountered an 18-wheeled tractor-trailer lane spitting between Victorville and Barstow on a two-lane highway, and there was still room enough in the opposite direction for a Cadillac land yacht!

Has nothing to do with it but since you mentioned it the state of California currently has a large budget surplus.

True! I bet 99.9 to 100 per cent of lawmakers are cagers that haven't the first clue about motorcycles or know anything about them.

From what I've seen many if not most motorcyclists in the other states seem to ignore the laws and lane split anyways. So much for your dumb useless laws against it.

Lane splitting seems unnecessary to me. Paitence is a virtue plus all it will take it one cager to slightly turned into your path and you've got a problem.

I work with a guy who is a complete ass and brags about doing just the above and claims to carry a .45 just in case the motorcyclist has a problem with it.

Is the guy serious? I don't know but is quite crazy. So I can't imagine the few minutes gained by lane splitting would be worth the potential hazard.

I wouldn't equate lack of respect and disagreement with ignorance and hate. Just because someone disagrees doesn't mean they are a bad person or lack intelligence.

Although, there does seem to be a small minority of people in the US today that like to claim all sorts of horrible things if someone dares to have a different opinion. How dramatic.

And there's a WORLD of difference between not agreeing with another's point of view and what the Muslim terrorists do.
