Never say never ..., That's a jinx in itself ....,All the work I've done and have never been burned by gas. I start debris fires with gas, work on cars and never had an accident. I did have sawdust explode in my face once throwing it in a wood stove.
Kind of bad thinking of gas burning since most of sit on a gas tank.
I saw a video on TV where Jay Leno was trying to light that car he got hurt on. He made comment how dangerous it was and wanted to be sure he didn't burn his right hand since that was the hand he wrote paychecks to his guys with.Never say never ..., That's a jinx in itself ....,
It says they were 3rd degree burns.Having spent my last 3 years of active duty as the Administrator of the U.S. Army Burn Center I can tell you that there is almost nothing worse to suffer than a severe burn. Hopefully Jay Leno's burns were not 3rd degree burns, i.e., where the entire thickness of the skin was burned, so that he will recover and still look mostly like what he looked like before the accident.
The rule of 9s. Different areas of your body are a certain percentage of the total area - arms 9%, legs 18%, body 27% etc. If the total area burned + your age totals more than 100 I was told it is not survivable.Plastic surgery has come a long way since I was involved in burn care, and reconstructive surgery as well. But it is fiction when a severely burned person is shown in a movie or TV being restored to fully "normal" looking even after multiple surgeries. About half of the patients that were treated at the Army's world famous burn center during my time there were civilians, often the worst of the worst that other burn centers felt were beyond their ability to treat. The saddest cases were those that could have so easily been avoided, such as people foolishly pouring lighter fluid on an already burning grill, or not having batteries in smoke detectors in their homes, or adding gas to a totally empty but super hot lawn mower and having the gas vaporize and explode and then ignite the gas container as well. In literally 1/10th of a second the human body can be permanently and seriously burned beyond ever being fully restored and healed. Be careful.
