So, I just got a quote from Intact Insurance.
-2019 Yamaha Tracer 900 GT
-new rider (well technically I'm a returning rider but I let my license expire a looong time ago)
-age 56
-Mississauga (the world's best sensory deprivation tank)
The quote was $4050 per year ......WHAT ?????
OMG
Are there other companies in Canada providing insurance? I was told that Intact has been buying up all the other companies and might be the only one that provides bike insurance around here. This can't be true... ???

That was for "full coverage" I should have asked for a quote for the basic minimum, which I assume would be just liability. Assuming they do things the same way as with cars.

Insurance companies sometimes see the sport in sport touring and think super sport instead. You see it happen with the Ninja line, the Ninja 1000 s not the same kind of machine as the ZX-10R but some companies do not understand the difference because they see sport bike when looking at both. Which results in similar insurance premiums.

I am actually surprised that someone your age would see a premium of that size, it is likely due to being a new rider if that is what they consider you.

As a new rider, if I had wanted a R6, it was around 3000 with full coverage.

this is what happens when .... ( MOD NOTE, edited to remove a snip of an offensive and non relevant post that was deleted)
Most interesting and useless info.
If you hit and injured someone, how would they pay for their medical care?
Can I assume you let others pay for it. Like the government with other taxpayers money, using a socialist type system.
Nobody up here voted in any communists, but I understand you have quite a few in the US. Here is a clue. This land is your land, this land is my land, etc. UK

He's boasted about no requirement for motorcycle insurance in Florida like it's a badge of honor. I'd asked what happens when a motorcycle hit another vehicle. He'd replied that's not the problem. Almost as if motorcyclists can do no wrong...

I don't get it

What happened to MotersickleBum post, I cannot find it anywhere. Did one of the mods take it down because they didn't like his wording? Don't know but wouldn't be surprised..

Yes, it wasn't in very good taste and not at all pertinent to the OP's question

It was deleted due to being nasty in tone and off topic in this thread and this forum.

My reply to MSB, had not posted as well. So I hit post reply, and then noticed MSB post had been deleted. My reply included the offensive language, which has also been edited. The mods are on the ball, and quick. The MSB post was a bit over the top, and was ripe for retaliation. Many Canadian Insurance companies, are part of a US parent company. That is also the case with many companies here. The US companies developed earlier than the Canadian companies, so It was a smart thing to do at the time. Naturally folks will argue both sides of the coin, about most everything.

In BC, we do have collector plates, and that is a reasonable deal. I have three bikes insured for about $250
But the regular rates are too high IMO. $390 for the XS400. Liability only. But that is where the large expense can be incurred. Injuring someone can cost a lot more than the value of a bike. I think I have $2 million. UK

What kind of proof of insurance is required when riding a motorcycle in Florida?
Once you have purchased motorcycle insurance or obtained a self-insurance certificate, the DMV will input this information into their computer system. Despite their records, motorcycle riders are still required to carry some form of proof on them while operating a motorcycle on Florida roads. This proof of motorcycle insurance coverage makes it easier and less time-consuming in the event you need to prove you are insured to a law enforcement officer. In the event you need to prove you have Florida motorcycle insurance, the following forms of proof are generally accepted:
a physical insurance card from an insurance carrier - a digital insurance card or photo of your insurance card - account information screen on a web page - self-insurance certificate from the Bureau of Financial Responsibility (far less common) Perhaps the poster was misinformed or uninformed.

I can see facebook isn't the only means of communication that is allowing only that speech they deem appropriate. Inappropriate language is one thing, what a person thinks I believe is still freedom of speech. It is not required to meet anyone's standards. Heinrich Himmler would be proud.

I wish Michigan had a way to update insurance information to be tied with registration, sometimes I forget to print off a physical card every six months for my car.

But we don't have a formal DMV, just Secretary of State, so the functions may be split up or less focused due to that.

A person complaining about communism, which is not the same as socialism despite similarities, had the word sickle in their name and were riding around in a manner that would likely bring the hammer down on them?

look, insurance mandates were gifted to the moron masses because people who buy super-expensive, new cars want YOU to help pay for their full-coverage. comprendo señior? we here call it, COMMUNISM. i don't drive anything that i can't replace with my own money. see, in life you have to TAKE CHANCES. you can't have everything insured for you by some money grubbers who con the lawmakers into making us buy a product that WE DON'T WANT.

and what IF you accidentally run into an old lady jogging? do you have jogging insurance? furthermore, the minimum requirements for insurance in many states wouldn't even cover one day in The Hospital. again: LIFE IS DANGEROUS if it scares you, check out so that we who are not afraid can live free.

So you blow a stop sign, total a person's car, too bad so sad if they can't afford to replace it because you wrecked it.

Got it.

No matter to me, I pay for uninsured motorist, for just such situations.

You are having trouble staying with the plot. Wild accusations, no response to questions asked. I am not even going to ask to what nightmare you refer. And several posts all ranting. Are you on shaky foundations?
You said we call it, but I think you call it. Start with being honest with yourself. Most here do not need your useless drivel.
