Most of us use our bikes for pleasure or, at most, commuting to work. In some other countries, they are much more "innovative" 20140627162635-5.jpg

There was a book on this...forgot what it was called, but shows that to much of the world, motorbikes are for livelihood as well as fun.

By that comment, I guess you are still young.
Just after WW 2, there was no money available in Europe.
So everyone rode motorbikes, as cars were too expensive.
Thats how Tribsas and Tritons Etc, came about.
Family ? Ok, you took out a loan and bought a sidecar.
Even Harley, made bikes for tradesmen, with huge boxes or whatever people needed, to earn a living.
Heck I even remember when the local motorcycle shops sold Skis, for winter riding, and they were not for fun !
Those days, everyone rode a motorcycle as a first vehicle, so when people got good jobs, and cars were available, they knew the problems of bike riding, and drove accordingly.
Now, not many people use motorcycles, and tons of drivers have no idea what it is like to ride a bike.
As proven in all the accidents we hear about.
Take Care out There
