I wanna make a little noise with my Harley!

I have a '06 sportster 883 custom with stock exhaust. please excuse my ignorance(first harley) but i want to make it alittle louder. #1 is the first place i should look the Harley shop? #2 i have a year left on factory warrentee, do i have to go thru them? any advice? Thanks!

I have an 07 883 and I put on the (SE2 Screamin Eagle 2 )exhust around Christmas still happy with them, love the sound.

New Pipes

I have an 05 883L. I waited for for the warranty to expire then had good independent do a stage 1 upgrade. Carb kit with Arlen Ness Big Sucker air cleaner and Cycle Shack 1 3/4 "M" slash cuts it sounds great, got a little more performance and did not break the bank at a hair over $550.00. The pipes were the most expensive at about $235

Cycle Shack has a pretty good reputation (read all the reviews I could and talked to a lot of people with more experience than I had) and they are very reasonable in price compared to the SE's or Vance and Hines. Just MHO

I have a '00 sporty with a Vance and Hines Pro pipe.Its a 2-1, has a nice growl.I had the V&H straight shots on before and they sounded awesome too.

FYI, if you hear people talking about slip on's. The are the back 1/2 of the pipes. You can get these in a screaming eagle set and they are easy to install. They will in most cases make the bike loud (scream). When doing this you do need to consider the Jetting, or fuel injection system, and or open the system up to have more air go in, etc. A good mechanic or the Harley shop can answer all your questions and get you set up.

i never buy new, used is usually half price
and, you can resell at that price if they are too loud,
and try something else.

SE2 are pretty loud (not ear splitting) and they have another SE model now that is quieter, SE Street or something?

we are running our 07 without a tune
(bikes come lean to meet EPA)
with slip fits (se2) and some holes in the back of the air cleaner backiing plate, and it's not backfiring on decel (commonly called a "lean decel" backfire)

I had SE2 on my 1200 R when I got it used and love them. After a while I removed each and bent the one baffle in them out of the way. Now wow a little too loud at times. I'd look for used slip ons and do it yourself. You will need to have it retuned and a better airfilter would help too. I went with a K&N I got from Harley and cut the back out of the plastic air housing like on the SE air parts. It didn't effect gas milage or anything and you can wash and reuse the element saving $ in the long run.

SE High Flow air filter system and a set of SE slip on's will do the trick. Just have the carb rejetted by a Harley tech to keep up with the additional air flow and you will be happy with the sound and performance. Remember to rejet the carb!!! Otherwise it will be too lean, and will not run well.

I have an 883 2007 went with V&Hs shortshots but you have to change the air cleaner too. screamin eagle has a good one thats cleanable. you will have to alter the fuel map with a (fuel pak) also from V&Hs. the pipes are real loud but they do have a quite baffel if you want it. downside is it will have a drinking problem. but it will run like a bear. good luck! I've owned a multitude of bikes. And only 3 or 4 times have I bought the big bucko pipes for them. Always when I had no alternative. Most recently Mistrals for my '02 LeMans. Some sites will give you instructions on how to drill out the rivits, pull the stuffins' out and cut out the baffles from stock pipes. With pipes costing over $1000.00 now it's no surprise crafty people are coming up with ways to not spend the money. My Mistrals were ~$580.00. The D&D's on the new '95 916 were about the same. The expansion chambers on my H1 Kawasaki were $200.00 in '95. My '94 RF900 already had the high dollar stuff on it.

Most of the other pipes I made up here with torches and **** I found in the ditch or in thriftshops.
